motty
has anyone got any tips on getting birds that are shy into range can you over use a magnet? I think in areas where birds are 'shy' they have been overshot. I've known of some people to set up on the same fields 3-4 times a week, then wonder why they struggle. sitsinhedges
I'm still not convinced about magnets at all. All I ever seem to do with mine is pull distant birds in then spook them before they get into range. I think a few motorised decoys and a pair of floaters always gets me better results, they may not pull so many birds but those that come commit to the pattern properly rather than flare away 50yards off. I do find that odd. Every good bag i've had this year has been shot using at least 1 magnet. When i shot 60 on wednesday i couldn't have asked the birds to commit better. Had loads landing in the pattern. I hardly have a day when i think the magnet isn't doing it's job.
yickdaz
magnets do work i think they are the best decoy out there, along with dead birds as static decoys you have to keep moving it trying different positions,it can be a pain going in and out the hide and stopping and starting it and moving it round every 15 mins but you have to do that at times if you want to make any kind of bag, had loads of days when they wouldn,t commit at all until it was placed in the right position then they come in like no tomorrow
shootnfish
i shot on standing wheat friday, had my magnet out. it was bringing them in range but they wernt commiting to the decoys so the ones i was shooting were landing in the taller areas of wheat. i added my flapper to the patten, right in the middle of my shells and straight away they were dropping straight in fluttering over the shells and flapper looking for somewhere to land. everyone shot then was dropped in the short area where i wanted. mite not work next time though, but thats what keeps it intresting.
