working dog
Agree that good diet is essential. Mine have been a lot better since they moved away from decent dry food and onto a raw diet. A friend spent years and loads of money with the vets trying to cure a skin irritation with her dog. Moving to a raw diet they saw massive improvements within a week
BenBhoy
it's amazing the amount of dogs that are now found to be allergic to so many of the common ingredients in alot of dry feed, one of the most common bulking agents being wheat. interesting reading here http://crpf.org.uk/
ziplex
Our dogs get plenty of biscuit which contain oil and once a week they they all have a tuna dinner. It seems to work for them, the GSP especially has got a lovely gloss on her, the springers fur's not so glossy but has a nice sheen to it. Tam
Sardines or Mackerel from Lidl's/Aldi or when we are fishing a raw fillet of Mackerel he will even eat Mackerel whole if he gets the chance Edited August 23, 2011 by Tam
ForeignGadger
You might try Arden Grange Adult mix: we use lamb and rice. Our cocker gets that + the occasional egg, (mainly surplus pheasant's eggs!) and folks regularly comment on her shiny coat. Being jet black with tan highlights and a bit of a white bib certainly helps show off the sheen. FG PS she is progressing well: at 13 months: retrieving pigeons reliably from the hide, and getting some dogging-in experience, OK with fur and feather retrieves, steady to sheep, poultry and rabbits. Roll on the pheasant season!
working dog
If youre feeding Arden Grange it is worth getting on their breeder program. I used to feed AG and bought it a lot cheaper through their program although I never bred. As it is working dog food, you get it vat free as well. The money you save can then be spent on shooting stuff
