-Mongrel-
Now I'm in a position to buy my carts from wherever I like, and with the ever increasing costs, I was wondering what you guys are using for clays and at what cost (and if necessary where from)? Just looking to minimise the costs. I currently use RC2 Comps in 24g 7.5's, but that's mainly because it's what my main ground hold!!!! cant hit rabbits 123
I tend to buy what evers on offer from several local RFDs. One month Melbourne tackle and gun will have a great offer for english sporters for example and the next its countryman of Derby with the best offer for miles. Just hunt around. At the stage I'm at, the cartridges dont affect my shooting, I just adapt to a more thumpy shell one month then back to a bit softer the next. 88b
It's usually cheaper if you buy by the thousand, although Eastern Sporting where I usually get mine from charge the thousand price even for a box of 250. I have to use fibre wads at one place I shoot the price of them opens your eyes. I bought some last week and lead shot Eley Firsts were a little cheaper than steel. sg1
@ Mongrel, being you're reasonably 'close' to me (I'm West Sussex) Have you tried 10 Tec Shooting at Rustington? I've been using them for about 6 months now. Dave there does great prices on Fiocchi's, Lylevale's etc because as mentioned by another post above , he too does them on the thousand rate even for 250's for eg: Lylevale's English Sporter @ £149.00 / 1000 He's actually on holiday at mo until 16th August but his shop will be opened up for you if you ring first 01903 784002 atvb sg1

Thunderbird
Interesting to see what people consider good value nowadays too. I'd say £150 and under for 1000 was. Over £160-165 and I'm shopping around for a different brand I think.
Kermit the frog
Dear all, There was a general increase by most of the cartridge manufacturers in June, and the prices you are finding are for old stock, i.e. before the price increase. Eley Firsts 28 plas & Express english sporting 28 plas should be £158+ per thousand. 24gr aren't always cheaper than 28gr, I presume they don't do big production runs. Please bear in mind that your club has to pick up your empties when you've finished, and pay to dispose of them, £150 a skip full, you aren't allowed to burn them anymore. Our club (Forhill) sell them cheap at 1000 rate whatever quantity you buy even 25. Your club needs the profit to keep going, won't be much point in buying them cheap when you've got nowhere to shoot. kermit

I have seen supergems at £160 per 1000 but bought Eley first 28g at £37 a slab 21g were £35? I think no doubt next lot will have gone up a few £ but it'll do me for a while. JustJon
I've been shooting rio's, 21g. Different recoil to the hull comp x, the comp x seems a bit stunted on the recoil and these actually recoil normally but only very gently - shot 125 yesterday and felt nothing. That explanation will make no sense to anyone and I can't think of a better way to describe. I actually like a little recoil else when I shoot game loads my whole 2nd shot will seem a mile different.
