Cranfield
One of my farms is like that (and I have the scars up my legs to prove it). I asked why it was so long and was told it was because the crop was a bit "green" this year, so they combine high up the stalk. It was very noticeable that the stalks were a lot greener than usual. ack-ack
Its also much quicker to combine as theres less waste matter passing through the machine, some leave long straw as a matter of course. You will more than likely find that the farmer tops it pre cultivation for better straw incorporation.
maxwell
The opposite up hear in Durham, very short as it is being bailed, apparently due to shortages there is now a market for it Regards Maxwell

Been told it depends on what is going in next and if they disc or just plough straight in , also can depend on what type it is and trust me 2 foot is nothing got some which comes to my waist
