South East coaches

Right, having moved from rifles to a shotgun relatively recently, (I've been shooting clays about 4 months now, with my own gun for about 2,) I've come to the conclusion I need further tuition!

I had been steadily if unspectaculary improving my scores, hitting around 40-50% (from 16 out of 70 first time I shot) but today I just seemed unable to hit anything with any consistency and carded my worst score in 3 months.

I have been constantly changing things. I'm still not 100% sure if I have full correct eye dominance, I have tried shooting with both eyes open and one eye shut and to be honest it doesn't make a marked difference either way, but today I felt as though I was struggling to line the gun up consistently or accurately, my mount didn't seem consistent, I was shooting over, under and behind! Couldn't work out any leads, at one point I started mounting higher in my shoulder that brought a brief improvement but only brief! For the first time ever I left a stand having missed every bird! You name it and today it felt wrong! To say that I left the club a bit disheartened would be a massive understatement!

So...I want someone to take a look at what I'm doing and advise. As such I want to find a coach who has a decent rep. I've asked around the local club but the best I got was "All the coaches here are ok". I'd rather find someone 'really good' rather than 'ok'.

Anyone know of a coach in Sussex who they'd recommend?

Ask for John Hughes at Southdown, just up the road from you, smashing fella :)

NOt a personal recommendation but you could do worse! http://www.georgedigweed.com/personal_coaching.html

Three times now I've gone to fill in the enquiry form...and three times I've said to myself "Don't be so daft! This man is the best in the World, at least get yourself to a respectable shot before even considering troubling him!". I'm also not convinced I earn enough to pay for coaching from a World Champion.

There's a few good coaches at Northall, not too expensive either.

Ah, well, you see, that's where I was told "All the coaches here are OK". I've used one for my 'safety lesson' and while I have no complaints, I'm not really experienced enough to know what makes a good or bad coach, hence the request for personal recommendation.

Ok, I'm a wuss! I'll find a local coach and think about worrying Mr Digweed once I'm struggling to find that last 10%!

I doubt he is the best coach in the county let alone the country but he is the best clay shooter in the WORLD If i lived closer I would go for a lesson just to see the man shoot upclose....

However I have had lessons from a top coach and the best lesson I ever had i didnt fire a single shot! Unfortunately he isn't in Sussex, but i do believe he was born there...
