steve_b_wales
A mate of mine is getting a 2nd hand Tikka T3 Lite. He's going to put a reasonable quality scope on it, but does not fancy forking out the money for Optilok bases/rings. I have them on my Tikka, and told him that they are probably the best. However, he's not taking my advice, and wants something else. Has anyone got this rifle with a different make of rings etc, and what are they? What would be the best, apart from Optilok? Steve. bsamatt
I also have the optilocks on my T3, you may aswell pay the extra, and as you say probably the best there is. Tell him to look second hand, i picked mine up of Remmy on here for £65 in perfect condition, (Thanks remmy great bloke to deal with). Its better to pay the extra know than to **** about re-zeroing later imo. matt
yankeedoodlepigeon
I have Optiloks on mine. (so I found out yesterday) They are the best ones I have ever had. You could get a set from your local shop for half the price of new like I did.
garyb
Fit it with Leupold rings and bases. Whilst their scopes are cack.. their rings and bases are actually very good! I have a set on my T3, although it also has a picatinny rail. You will need the (54447) and then the Standard rings to suit tube and height. I might have a set of 1 inch mediums for sale... http://www.bushwear.co.uk/nostyles.php?ProductID=323248&ClassID=189 Edited August 15, 2011 by garyb
Trefil Hunter
i found warnes good also. optilocks should just be binned as i think they are a poor design. mine came loose after a few shots and decided to get rid of them. they would be beter if the ring cud be seated into a recess of the base rather guessing that they are properly aligned
al4x
though the optilocks are best if you can read the instructions which it appears a bit of a problem in Wales the leupold rings and bases are quite good. As GB says they are far cheaper and certainly my 700 never lost zero with them
njc110381
Warnes seem pretty good, but when I looked into them I wasn't sure that even their highest Tikka mount would take a 56mm objective? I did look at the option of fitting Weaver bases and then getting Warnes to fit that size rail, but the more screws there are in it the more margin for error you create. I recently went through this and second hand Optilocks would have been my choice if something equally as good (and expensive) hadn't have come along first. They really are good mounts. The set on my T3 never lost zero, not even when I dropped or fell on it.
Speedfreak77
i have a pair of warne mounts for sale to fit tikka, they were ok with my meopta 7x50a but my new scope has a front parallax adjuster and they are too low, so unfortunately ive had to go the optilock way, anyway £30 posted if anyone wants them. The Leupold scopes, VX-3 anyway, really aren't cack! They are not the best, but neither are they the worst.
bindi
I have Leopold rings and bases on my Tikka T3 Laminate .223 and am very happy, no scope creep at all.

They simply don't even come close against decent Euro made glass...And that's why all my rifles wear European glass I've tried Leupold's, but have sold every single one back on. I compared side-by-side my Swaro PVI-2 against Stealth Stalkers VX-L the other night.. the clarity of the Swarovski was much superior. Mr_Logic
I agree the German stuff is better, but they are not in the same league in terms of price. Leupold scopes have their place though, European stuff, except PM2, is not great for the long range stuff due to lack of adjustment range. garyb
Agree with you there.. The yanks have them beat for range / tactical use This will be interesting once released. http://www.meopta.com/en/zd-6-24x56-new--1404042915.html

Given the choice I'd have second hand german glass every time
