Anthony
Just brought the AL391 in exchange with one of my Air Rifles, great looking gun and very light, ideal for pigeons Does anyone have any advice on favoured cartridges for pigeons and any cartridges that are not advisable with this gun? Any other comments also welcome? Thanks TONY
ernyha
Anthony i always use Express 30gram Pigeon special in my 391 and have no bother what so ever with them. They also do a good job on the pigeons as well. Have used 28gram shells on clay shoots and also no problems what so ever. Sure you will have some good sport with it, best of luck.
Elma Fud
The only cartridge that I have had a problem with, was a 3 " AAA whilst out foxing, fired one shot and would not exit the breech thus impeding a fresh cartridge into the chamber. johnny
I've been using game bore super game 6shot 32grms never again will I use them through my 391 as it sometimes the cartridge case comes away from the brass cap leaving the case up the barrel dont know if its a cartridge fault or gun but I usually use RC30s and they go though fine. itchentofish
I have a 391 and experienced exactly the same thing with AAA 3" shells. If I loaded a 3" into the breach and 2 2 3/4 into the magazine no probs. It was when I tried to cycle a 3" shell from the magazine that things got stuck Were the cartridges 56g Express by any chance? The reason I ask is because I have since used Gamebore 3" BB/#3 with no problems. It has to do with the type of crimp. 391's are fussy with regards to this. I strip mine after every shoot and take out the trigger assembly for a clean once a season. I use a motor de-coking agent to drop the cylinder/piston assembly into which brings them up like new. Also use oil very sparingly as 391's hate too much oil. Hope this helps Matt
Anthony
Thanks for all the info I will have to ensure I know what cartridges to use so they don't fault. There certainly looks to be a lot of areas to be cleaned after use. Any other opinions on the gun would be good Thanks Tony
hymax12uk
 Hi i think you will find that the shells with roll overcrimps ie express 3" are A longer shell, i had same problem you fire one shell and the second gets blocked! I only found out after i sold the gun DHO  ..
Tony
Hello Boys! been away for a while but back on line... Someone's nicked my Homer avatar!!! I'm well chuffed with my 391. I haven't used 3" loads so can't comment on the jamming problem. Was a little concerned over how tight the trigger assembly was in the frame. I followed the instructions in the manual but it wouldn't shift. Gave it a good tug and it finally shifted about 1mm. With much huff and puff it finally came out. Anyone else had this trouble? It maybe because it's a camo and is made of synthetc material rather than wood. I'll take it to the gun shop and see what they think before the warranty expires! Tony
Thanks for that Hymax. I did grease the sides of the assembly when i put it back. I'll find out if it's any better next time I strip it. Mighty fine avatar you have there. Are we related!!!
ernyha
I agree with the lookalikes, my 391 is the synthetic cammo and pulling the trigger mechanism out is a real pain. Haven,t had any trouble with jamming but also have never used 3" shells. I find it the perfect gun for a hectic day in the pigeon hide and then spend a couple of hours reflecting on a good day,s sport while i clean it at night. The laborious cleaning is the biggest drawback to a great gun in my opinnion.
Tony
It must be a 'feature' so won't bother the gunsmith. I agree the cleaning is the fly in the oitment.

hymax12uk
:*) sorry if i have stepped on any one's toes i found if you spray your working parts (the guns tht is!) with nappier before leaving , for home.By the time i got home it was a lot easyer to get rid of the carbon build up.One big thing i have noticed is the recoil on fiber wads since going back to an u/o.the 3" crimped cases are ok its just rolled turnover's that are longer once fired.good gun just did not find out about cases before i sold it Doh!
G.I. countrysports U.K. GARY
GREAT TIP ON THE 391 LADS... I HAVE USED ONE SINCE THEY FIRST CAME OUT (CAMMO) 390 BEFORE IT... I HAD PROBLEMS WITH 3 INCH 52 GRAM BBs. FILLED IT UP WITH THEM AND KILLED THE FIRST GOOSE WITH THE FIRST SHOT AND THEN IT DIDN'T RE-CYCLE. SEVEN CAME INTO THE DEEKS AS WELL... TO MAKE THE JOB OF CLEANING THE GAS PARTS MUCH EASIER I USE ONE OF THOSE RE-CHARGEABLE DRILLS WITH WIRE BOTTLE BRUSHES (VARIOUS SIZES) GO GENTLY WITH IT AND IT REALLY SPEEDS THE JOB UP. IN FACT, IT BRINGS EVERYTHING UP LIKE NEW... I USE THE CHEAPEST SPRAY LUBRICATING OIL THAT I CAN BUY ( GIANT TIN SIZE) WITH THE FINE NOZZLE ATTACHED, TO BLAST OUT THE TRIGGER ASSEMBLY AND ACTION, DANGLE THE WHOLE LOT INSIDE THE BIN WHEN CARRING OUT THIS TO AVOID A SERIOUS ####ING FROM HER INDOORS... AFTER THE BLASTING, WHICH REMOVES ALL DEPOSITS, I LEAVE TO DRAIN AND THEN WIPE THE WHOLE LOT DRY WITH A CLEAN CLOTH, IT NOW LOOKS LIKE BRAND NEW... FINALLY, A VERY LIGHT LUBRICATE WITH TETRA GUN OIL (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED) TO FINISH OFF BEFORE PUTTING THE WHOLE THING BACK TOGETHER... NO OIL WHATSOEVER ON THE GAS PARTS... ALL THE VERY BEST...
