smcgreg1
What with all the recent posts about crayfish. I thought I might give it a go. I went into my local angling shop yesterday and asked if there were any crayfish in the area. The guy behind the counter gave me a look as if I had just urinated all over the shop!! He gave no advice at all. I have been trying to find websites that may help in locating the little blighters and found a couple fo sites but these don't seem to hold a lot of information. Does anyone know if there are any signal crayfish in the Maldon area, or anywhere in essex? Can anyone point me in the direction of a decent website/forums that has locations? I would love to take my boy out and catch some crayfish as he seems to be very interested in foods that we can catch/gather ourselves and cook. I don't mind travelling and making a day out of it if there are places a bit further out (hour or so drive). Cheers Scott

Or ask any fisherman friends you may have. You may find some in the fihing Lakes near the caravan parks at the back of Goldhanger? Get in touch with Bruno. Stanstead Abbots by the railway station is apparently a very good spot 10 minutes from Hertford just off the A10, and the Saracens Head at Ware. mart46
I'm not sure, but dont you need a specific licence to trap crayfish?
bakerboy
I'm not sure, but dont you need a specific licence to trap crayfish? You need a license to trap, but not to drop net, as along as the nets are attended.

Hi Billy Unfortunateley I am out most of friday. Make sure Stutleys have what you want, there is very little in the shop at the moment, apart from an aire of confusion. I do not think the move has been thought through and cannot see it doing them much good, I hope I am wrong. The move may of course help Different Calibre at Letchworth smarten up their act. al4x
you're turning into a comedian Terry a different caliber has been like that for 20 years no idea how they are still there. As for Stutleys you must be after something complicated Billy if there isn't a cheaper option unless you are going to the new shop which i've not been to yet

To site most walk in businesses you need to count Chimney pots, it would not have taken long to count the chimney pots at the new site , this is a fishing lake complex, well away from anything, in fact everything

Rob is the owner...it might be worth a look. We used to get the diving students to poke about in the holes in the lake wall and watch the jump as the got a nip through their gloves TEH

bakerboy
river Lea... http://theoldbarge.co.uk/events.html I sit at the side of the Barge and catch the Crayfish, get a pint of really good real Ale and have a nice time. The Crayfish festival is great fun for the family. Today at the Barge, my brother caught 60 plus Crayfish 30 of which were monsters, mini lobsters and it only took just over the hour. Get your self down there.
