gazyapp
Hi all, I'm off to France at the end of September. It just so happens that the house we are staying in has a 4 acre lake and 300m of the river Somme to fish!! Does anyone know what I would expect to catch from the Somme?? Do I pack my carp rods or my barbel rods?? Thanks
Catamong
It's more suited to Carp than Barbel, tends to be deep and slow flowing. Cat.
UKPoacher
Oh yes. Do try and pack the correct rod. It wouldn't do to have a barbel rod for carp or vica versa would it? I mean, it's just not done!
gazyapp
And the helpful part of that reply???

UKPoacher
And the helpful part of that reply??? Do what the French do; Buy a 12 foot telescopic rod and as large and cheap a fixed spool reel as you can find, and use it for anything from mackerel to wels catfish. activeviii
barbel can be great fun as some areas are loaded with them. same goes for carp and the cats. if you can get someone to load the river with soaked and cooked maize then its a good start, you will need a fair few days of baiting to get and hold the carp. barble come to the halibut pellets and you can fish it the same way as one would barbel somewhere like the river Severn. heavy loaded feeders with pellet hook baits. if your unlucky you will get wiped out bu a 100lb cat fish. we use to fish down stream 20 meters with heavy gear and a couple of 25mm halibut pellets just in case a cat came up the scent trail. if you dont like the idea of fishing the river then just take UK carp gear and fish the lake like you would do on and English lake. best of luck. gazyapp
Thanks for the advice, I got back on Saturday and what a week!! The lake produced a lot of roach and bream..... And a grass carp of 20lb 8oz, no monster by French standards but a new pb for me!!! The river fished very well after 2 days baiting. Between me, dad and the other half we managed 2 chubb, around 25 barbel to 7lb and lost count of the bream we caught! My other half hooked into something very big, it towed her up and down the river then stuck to bottom and snapped my hook link. Maybe a catfish?? I will definatley be going back and get some pics up soon!!
kik
I know this thread is old, but how was the fishing gazyapp? Looking to go myself on the Somme and looking for different locations. The holiday park seems to busy for my likings. Is the house you stayed in available for renting? If so, where can I find the details? What fish are in that lake?
