Changing from a springer to pcp

Hey everyone! I currently have a Stoeger x20 .22 but I'm thinking of changing to a pcp, does anyone have any recommendations? Obviously I shall try a few out before I buy, I have been thinking possibly about getting an Air Arms S400 or a BSA ultra, I understand that the BSA doesn't have a great shot count? I shall be using this for hunting.. However I would prefer to get one second hand and as a kit.. I.e including pump.

If anyone has one they are interested in PX then message me :)

Cheers guys!

Hiya mate, i was on the hunt for my first pcp a few months ago. I found there was quite often something new coming up on the sales section on here and obviously guntrader is something to look at. The s400 and ultra are both solid rifles (ive shot a ultra and s410) and feel good to hold (for me) like you said just have a go before you make a decision :good: local gun shops will usually have something like that second hand. sounds as if your budget is around £500? you should be able to pick up an ultra multi-shot and kit for that if your lucky, my cousin just got one with a dive bottle and everything else for £525

Been down the springer to pcp route several times.

Was going to buy a Webley Raider then a BSA R10. :hmm:

Eventually fitted a Vmach kit and spring guide to my Diana 52,

topped off with a Diana silencer, smoother and quieter,

that convinced me to keep the springer.

At a recent local HRPC hft event, several people commented on how quiet it was.

Self contained, quiet and pretty tough, ticks all the boxes for me.

Try as many different rifles(local clubs are good)

as you can before buying, you could save yourself alot of money. :good:

pro sport is the best springer out of the box by far,is quite heavy though,if you do get a pcp you will be amazed at how much your bag will grow,a good shot with a springer = excellent shot with pcp.

Totally agree...when I used to go out after the bunnies with my TX200 i would be very pleased with 3 or 4 in an hours walk, now I do the same walk with my BSA Ultra and I often get more than double that and the biggest difference is my arms don't ache after carrying a tonne of rifle around!

I do still like to go out occasionally with the springer though...

OK, your sort of budget can get some interesting rifles! Depends what suits you. New, try the Hatsan AT 44, 10 shot, 2 magazines, fitted with a silencer, whisper quiet, gauge so you know the shot count. Lightweight, accurate and well balanced. Against, shot count is not the highest, you also will find that the safety comes on automatically when you reload, can be a swine if you are not used to it.

BSA Ultra, lightweight, quiet, accurate again, problem is the hokey cokey relaod. Press side switch, bolt shoots back right at your chops, either push bolt back in if magazine fed or load pellet, push bold back, then activate the MMC at the front, your hands are dancing about like a serial groper's at a lap dancing club. Does not make for accurate repeat shooting but hunting means you should only need one shot. However it adds about a second on the reload, so rapid reloading is not it;s forte. Also again not a high shot count.

Scorpion, similar to Ultra, however the reload is done with one bolt. You would be looking at secondhand in your price range so it would have the dirty great hole for the MMC plunger in the front of the stock with a sling holder on it!

Daystate, do not laugh! The X2 and earlier Huntsman multi shot models are in this price range now. Better shot count, than the others already mentioned, a good hunting rifle.

BSA Super 10 (prejudiced here). Basically the best PCP BSA ever made, great shot count, hellishly accurate, regulated so shots are evenly powered and no sweet spot. Downside, fairly heavy. A gun I love and am never getting rid of again.

Webley Raider - See Hatsan AT44, just not as good!

Air Arms S200, cheap, shot count limited, also if in .22 and secondhand you may be limited to lightweight pellets, the magazine system is not very good if you get a multi shot!

There are others you can find, Falcons, Titans etc but I tried to cover the main ones!
