Hamster
I could shoot loads more rabbits this time of year but unless I have an outlet like the butchers, the freezer or our own consumption is simply not big enough. The problem I have is that the best times are of course in the evenings but if I shoot a dozen or more when the butchers are closed, what do you do with them till the morning? I mean providing you gut and hang them in the garage will they keep Ok overnight or will I be breeding maggots?
M.I.A
They will keep overnight fine, i hang mine for up to 24 hours
TaxiDriver
I hung one overnight, next morning it was stiff as a board ? Im guessing that quite usual, but it did make skinning more difficult.

Unless it's hot, I try to draw and hang all my game through the rigor mortis cycle. You know the rigor mortis cycle is complete when the animal is no longer stiff. For large game, waterfowl and pheasant, I like to age a few days if the weather cooperates. Bluestem
Dekers
As long as they are cleaned then overnight should be fine. Obviously the best protection/temperature you can arrange just the same! Most of mine go to a Country Game dealer/butcher, I just hang the "supermarket bag/s" full of them on his farm gate and he collects then upon arrival at the crack of dawn, they are fully prepared and on sale when he opens! hawkeye
I just leave mine on the garage floor to cool over night then either in the freezer or to the butchers or game dealers
colin lad
see if your butcher has one of those large polly cool boxes he could give you, most butchers have a few laying about i got one i leave in the back of my car, then if iam getting some for the butchers i know i put a 2liter coke bottle full of water in the freezer before i go out then when i get back i just put it in the cool box with the gutted rabbits then take them to the butcher in the morning, colin
