shot gun application

What a load of rubbish.

Regardless of my past, my FAO said he was shore i would get SGC, knowing all about me.

nothing to stop me from getting one. But for some reason they feel it takes the need to make me wait 7WKS after vis by FAO, which i think is now beyond a joke and i have tried to call my F.A.O but dose not reply(and with very little contact from FAO have been lied to about where the application is at)

So i would suggest that any one trying to enjoy this sport give up if you are not a perfect reflection of a citizen because as far as police are concerned you are just some one to make a quick buck off you, as they do not pay for med records and do not keep you informed.

Weather you tell them the truth or not you are kept waiting and they is always some one trying to deal with it, witch is not true, they just don't want you to have a shotgun or any other gun at all.

What ever my response is to my application is i would not class this as non professional.

Calm down !!!

:o

The average turnaround time for anything FAC/SGC in West Sussex(where I am) is 12 weeks, other areas are MORE, some are less (ironically Cumbria is one such place) .

Did you pay by cheque/Postal order? Find out if it's been cashed because it's a 'good' indicator if it's going through or not.

They DO pay for med records but this may involve you paying initially and then getting reimbursed from them.

DON'T KEEP PHONING every 5 mins or you'll just pi** em off and they'll put you to bottom of pile.

It is your RIGHT to own a shotgun in UK and they have to prove a good reason for refusal, unlike Firearms where YOU have to give 'good reason' for wanting them.

So unless you've done 3 months + at HMP or have convictions for ABH/GBH or have been clinicly declared suicidal then just bide your time and it will come through.

The fact you've had visit from FEO shows a good sign as they do the Home Office checks prior to that and therefore it's a pretty safe bet that the cheque/PO has been cashed so all seems good. :good:

There's nothing stopping you going clayshooting with a SGC holder at their club(or almost any club come to that) or even buying a shotgun now and registering it to them and use it with them to go shooting with, then when your SGC comes through - get it transferred over to you :) , it all depends how desperate you are but I'll tell you one thing for sure......It WON'T be turning up in postbox today  but maybe tomorrow  .

Be patient :look: and let us know when it arrives :good:

If you are destined to get a SGC, I am sure it will arrive. However, if you deal with the Police in the manner of your last post - or they read it, I think it will be "Adios Amigo" to your chances.

Wild accusations hardly make you sound fitted to hold one.

As the previous poster said - calm down - now. :good: :good: :good:

Regarding the statement

'It is your RIGHT to own a shotgun in UK and they have to prove a good reason for refusal, unlike Firearms where YOU have to give 'good reason' for wanting them.'

You also have to show 'good reason' to have a shotgun. You can't have one just because you fancy one.

Actually SG1 is on the right lines. Although I may not have chosen the word "right" there is no requirement in the firearms act for the need to demonstrate good reason. One can not be refused even if you wish to have a shotgun to merely polish on a wet Sunday afternoon.

I would suggest you have a read of the firearms act or perhaps the HO guidance .

Mine took just over 3 months, have you stopped & considered that you are not the only person awaiting a certificate & that renewals and such will quite rightly take priority over grants, all these things can slow the process up. Calm down & wait your turn as we all have done.

A poor atitude from someone wishing to be granted access to firearms!

I know what the law says, but I believe Steve is correct.

Try telling the Firearms Liaison visitor that you know your rights - refuse to say why you want a SGC - tell them you just fancy one. It just won't happen. Unless you are reasonable enough to explain why you want one, I can't see the Police rushing to award a cert.

They would be crucified if they applied the letter of the law and it later went wrong.

Yes sorry  , The point I was trying to make to the OP was/is that as long as they're not deemed mad, suicidal, violent then the SGC will be granted. As quoted from Wiki

''Shotguns (Section 2 Firearms under the 1968 Act as amended) are defined in UK law as smoothbore firearms with barrels not shorter than 24 inches (60 cm) and a bore not larger than 2 inches (5 cm) in diameter, no revolving cylinder, and either no magazine or a non-detachable magazine that is not capable of holding more than two cartridges.[8] This effectively gives a maximum three round overall capacity, while shotguns with a capacity exceeding 2+1 rounds are subject to a firearm certificate. Shotguns thus defined are subject to a slightly less rigorous certification process, in theory a UK citizen has a right to own a shotgun, and the Police must prove the person is not suitable to hold a shotgun certificate.[9] On being granted a certificate the holder may own as many shotguns as he or she can securely store, they are legally obliged to inform the Police of each shotgun they have acquired, and are required to renew the certificate every 5 years.''

  • 5 weeks later...

To all above Sorry and yes i have chilled out because even now i still i'm waiting but still enjoy my clay shooting i was just upset due to the different things i have been told and couldn't understand why i couldn't just get told a straight answer, then i wouldn't mind waiting, its just that some of my friends and club members and my gun dealer think its very unusual for me to have waited so long so this made me think, that's why i started to contact them more regarding it, but now ill just wait for them to contact me.

So i apologise. :/ .
