Merlin64
I am thinking of investing in one of these for my shooting . Some places I go are near to stables and residents so I dont want to cause distubance to them. Can any one advise on the effectiveness of the hushpower system . Is the 12 gauge version much noisier too ?
M.I.A
I dont know about the 12 Gauge but i have the .410 and i couldnt be without it. I have some permssions that are close to stables too. I use either sub sonic carts (almost £9 a box though) but the 2 1/2" are just as good. Defo worth getting if you are in a noise sensitive area
bigmanuk
Hi, I have the 12gauge version and use Eley Hushpower 32g in them. Buy them in bulk from just cartridges and the price is not much more than a nornal cart. We have 3 horses and I have used it in an adjacent field to them, so basically incredibly close to numerous horses at our livery yard. I have been really impressed as nothing has spooked or gone crazy. When I got back to the stables which is only a field away, I asked around and nobody even said they had heard me. Really impressed with it.

M.I.A
The price is stupid for subs, but they are a great gun for rabbit stalking and the such.. Ive done a video compairing the noise of 2", 2 1/2", Magnums & Subs (.410) ive just got to work out how to stick it on the tube

M.I.A
I can't say on the 12 but I would guess it being similar to the 410. Normal carts will be louder than subs. I have occasionally had plastic wads "explode" looks like I'm firering confeti. Never had the same prob with fiber!

What do you shoot , dont mind me asking ? I been using my 12 on rabbits and getting 100% kills at good ranges 35-45 yards .I guess a 410 is alot less . maybe i should go for a 12 moderated ? Merlin64
20 moderated will be quieter with same range as 12,but carts will be dearer Sounds like 12 is better for me . You do see alot of .410s for sale and I am thinking have they got the grunt of a 12 . Like i said i am having good kill rates with the 12 and confident of its range , I paced one rabbit to 41 yards today that I shot with 2.5 inch no.6 carts.28gramme . Are you saying the baikal is not effective . Why is that ? Are the mossy 12 gauge pumps as quiet as a baikal ?They are £200 more as well . The mod is shorter on a mossy. Agree on resale of baikal but cant see me wanting to for a long while .

Agree on resale of baikal but cant see me wanting to for a long while . it's just my view,a single shot has it's limits, you have already mentioned the main one, second a mossy is more expensive new,but the are very solid so a S/H one will be fine and will be cheaper therefore better value PLUS you have two extra shots, disadvantage is it's so long and mod tube is big, hitting things can take a lot of pratice apparently.the 20b investarm has a better point of aim as the tube sit very close to the top barrel and has two shots,it's the best option, plus quieter than a 12b.when i was looking i even did a search on here for any references to them, then messaged the owners to see if they would sell, none of them would part with it,but I'm lucky as I had the money to buy what I wanted, sometimes you just gotta invest. Merlin64
that's cheap, make sure you tear his arm off Turns out to be another Baikal single barrel . My local RFD has a new 12 Mossberg 500 Hushpower in for £500. Think I may get it on the plastic and pay it off. They also do a scheme where you pay for the gun at the asking price monthly and when you have paid it off then you can have it . Think your advice makes sense about single barrels , they are not as effective .
southeastpete
i really want a 20 gauge investarm too, as i heard the lesser punch than the twelve is made up for by quietness, and 2 shots, without having to pump. I did read that the 12 was still pretty noisy. But i think i'll have to try the mossy 12 for myself before i spend the extra on the 20...
