Mungler
I have bought a couple of guns off PWF members who live miles away from me. I use two Essex based gun shops and both have got quite sniffy about getting involved in private gun sales where the gunshop network is used to move the guns around the country for private / second hand purchases. This is apparently because the shops in question sell most makes of gun and obviously want customers to buy from them with retail mark up. Does anyone know of an Essex based gunshop that charges reasonable money for handling / passing on guns? Cheers all. Mungler
Are there any loop holes for example Fed Ex-ing the gun in two parts? I doubt it very much but am open to suggestions / ideas. Edited May 8, 2006 by Mungler
MC
Mungler, K D Radcliffe in Colchester will do it for £20. I had a shotgun sent from Avalon Guns to Essex Shooting Supplies at Easthorpe as well, There was no charge for this a sI believe Avalon have agreements with certain RFD's. Essex Shooting Supplies are also the cheapest place around for cartridges and great personal service. I don't think there is a loophole with regards to sending the gun as that is not the problem. The problem is that the person who you buy the gun from has to fill in table 2 on your certificate so the deal has to be face to face. dunganick
you can legally send a gun through the post (using the same service the gunshops do) however using an RFD at each end means that you just transfer your gun to the RFD, who transfers it to the other RFD who then transfers it to the new owner (RFD's can transfer a gun without a signiture on their RFD ticket) Where as a normal SGC holder must get a signiture from the old owner on their ticket (when gun is signed over). This involves sending your certificate to the old owner to have them sign the gun onto your ticket which obviously isnt something you really want to trust royal mail with or someone you have never met. it can be done, but in many ways its a bigger pain in the backside than the RFD sending it. Mungler
Okay chaps, thanks for that. 1. does Essex Shooting Supplies have a webby I can look at? 2. how can I as Joe public send a gun through the post using the same service as RFDs - is this something you ask for at the post office? I wouldn't trust f'all to the post office but have faith in Fedex and UPS. Mung

Mungler
Do I know you Mungler? You use certain phrases and words that sound very familiar P. I don't know, it is possible.... where abouts are you from? If I am who you think I am and I owe you money then I can categorically confirm that I am not the person you think I am. However, if you think I am that person and you owe me money then I can confirm that's me. Obviously the person you think I am is a bloody funny great chap and is probably a bit of a hit with the ladies.
moeggesit
The only place I could find that would do this was Brentwood Gun Co. and the number I think is 01277-262327(might be an old number). The owner is retired and does business from his house and is quite helpfull. You may also want to try Ye Abridge Armoury. They are generally very helpfull and might be willing. MC
Essex Shooting Supplies don't have a website as far as I know. The shop is on a farm in Easthorpe nr Colchester. The first time I went I spent a hour driving around and could not find it. They are very helpful and as the people that run it live next door to their shop you can often arrange to pick stuff up in the evening or occasionally sunday mornings. Radcliffes are a well established gunmaker in the centre of colchester and is a traditional gunshop. Not that well stocked at times but I have never had any problems with them. They also have a shooting school outside Colchester where I used to trap for them when they were shooting. There is also 2 clay clubs that shoot there on alternate tuesday evenings through the summer. Cheers Martin
