Vince Green
The ghillie suit became enshrined in the language during the first world war when they were issued to snipers for cammo. Used more by snipers than ghillies. The father of British sniping Capt Heskith Pritchard used gamekeepers and Ghillies a lot in his original intake as they were experienced in fieldcraft and stalking their prey. aldivalloch
"Ghillie" or "gillie" comes from "gille", which is Gaelic for "lad", "young man" or "servant man". I guess it passed into the English language in the not-too-distant days when the use of Gaelic was widespread within Scotland.
