Shroud removal on a s410 xtra fac

Is it best to remove the shroud to clean the barrel, or does it mess up the concentricity of the shroud / barrel and mis align the muzzle end of the shroud so pellets clip it ? If it is best to remove it, is it the small grubscrew on top of the action only ? or would there be one under the scope as well ?

Why are you cleaning it?

had mine a couple of years and never cleaned the barrel and it is as accurate as the day I bought it. unlike powder burners, air rifles just dont get that dirty and any lead deposit inside the barrel will help accuracy.

If you want to oil the barrel for storing a great tip I was given was to get some ciagarette filters, soak one in oil, manually load it and fire it through.

:good:

It was something i read recently where it stated all pellets are alloyed differently, so the hardness is different and " dirtys up the rifling " to different degrees. So once a pellet choice was decided, stick to that one and the " dirty rifling " would be married to that particular pellet after a clean. I now use 18g AA field plus after trying many types.

Also, the last time i went out with it i had more misses than hits, and it knocked my confidence and i was probably looking for excuses, but i had not used it for a good while as i have been using the .22 lr and the .17 hmr. I have now though shot some paper and feel ok with it again.

Advice taken, leave well alone.

Just carefully drop a pull thru through the barrel and it will pass through the silencer part of the shroud without needing to remove it.

I do this with my moderated shotguns all the time to clean the barrel :good:

problem with pull throughs in this rifle as there are seals that can be disturbed. I think he is best leaving it alone.
