Bloggs Posted October 30, 2011 Report Share Posted October 30, 2011 I'm not advocating that pointing a weapon at anybody is a good idea, in fact quite the contrary, the point I was making is that actually shooting a 'robber' in your own home should be an absolute last resort I personally feel that being robbed is not reason enough to kill...! Spanj, you are obviously conversant with the rules of engagement and you know as well as I do when it is acceptable to pull the trigger! i.e. "You may only open fire against a person if he/she is committing or about to commit an act likely to endanger human life and there is NO OTHER WAY to prevent the danger.." Also, "When guarding property, you must not use lethal force other than for the protection of human life." If you were ever in the unfortunate position of being robbed at home with your family in the house the choice of events is down to the individual... If you could prove in a court of law that you acted within the guidelines above (I know these are for military use) I think that you may have a good chance of not going to prison for your actions. That's just my opinion and not fact... Just because you have cocked a weapon it is not obligatory to fire it. Going back to what I've been taught, whilst training for little 'holidays' in Afgan (and other sandy places), with an obvious language problem, if you ever get into a situation where things are heightening, cocking a weapon speaks an international language - everyone understands it and it will more than likely stop things escalating... :blink: Now going back to the robber in the house scenario, if I was in this position and my shotgun was actually at hand for genuine reasons (and I do mean that) I would opt for closing the barrels (i.e. cocking the weapon) WITHOUT loading it before confronting my unwelcome guest/s... B. and well and truly hurt but not killed, C. but indoors a bit of redecoration. D. positive ID if he does a runner. E. and it wouldnt need to be kept in the gun cabinet. WHAT DO YOU RECKON GUYS?
