dodeer
I've asked this before but can't remember the answer.... Got 2 BFG AT's on the front of my Hilux in 265 70 16 and need 2 new rear tyres. Can i buy the same size mud terrain ones or are you best sticking with AT's? People have said you shouldnt mix tread patterns but others say it doesn't matter...
mfletch
Yes you can use different tyres on the rear as long as there the same size
davesw
as long as tres the same size its ok they say you shouldnt mix tyres because rubber compounds and treads are different so will affect in line braking ability etc. i think it only matters on quick cars but for us with 4x4 cars i dont think it really matters as you would struggle to get to a speed where it would make a difference!!! four-wheel-drive
I think the problem is if you have all of the tyres the same make and type then when you are in four wheel drive there is no stress but with different makes even though they claim to be the same size are they go buy a coat the same size different make it only takes a little difference and in time it could cause where other people will say different but I prefer to play it safe. guss109
I always change all four at the same time as I reckon it's cheaper than a new diff if you wind it up. But each to there own
gixer1
Same type on same axle, difference on front and rear is ok, I have never heard of a transmission ruined by different tyres....after all different surface grips would cause this regardless of tyre type.... al4x
Its fine on different axles a fair few run muds on the back and at on the front. Won't help with braking hard for sika though
