I saw an episode of "It's me or the Dog" and they had a gorden setter that did the same thing. Maybe someone can remember the details but i'm sure they cured it with distractions, i.e. give him *** bits the exact moment he started to show signs of going for a reflection. I seem to remember most of the bad habits being broken with a distraction in form of a small bit of chicken. I could however be wrong and maybe someone saw the same programme and can recall how it worked.

Victoria Stilwell is the dog trainer on the programme (and domonatrix by the looks of it). Maybe a google search under her name might show up some details of the episode i'm talking about.

My spaniel used to chase the reflection from your watch on sunny days. You know when the little flash of light goes up the wall. We 'cured' it by taking your watch off for one or turning it round so the face is inside your wrist and doesn't catch the sun. So try and stop whatever is reflecting (he doesn't have to wear a man tag in the house) or ignore it when he does chase it. Does he chase shadows when he is on his own in a room, bet he doesn't, all he wants is attention so ignore him.

The other thing that stopped our spaniel was that he banged his head everytime he tried to grab the reflection so it wasn't that much fun.

Coupe;

To find out if your dog is just playing because he is boared throw a piece of electric tap over his tag for now so that it does not reflect. After a couple of weeks untape it and see if he has forgotton about it.

As for the recall problem, work him on a retractable lead, I find that the Flexi 3 , is about the best there is as they do not break and will last you 2 or 3 dogs. Follow the teaching the Recall command part of the pinned obediance thread and you will have it cleared up in no ime. If you are haveing particular problems then post it up and I will go over it with you and come up with a solution.

duncan is really coming on with his recall.

i have changed his whistle( notice the tone would change by its self), worked on him for about 1.5 hours a night and i think its as good as solved now, comes back every time. going to enforce it a bit more with long line, then try the stop comand. but i can take him off the lead and know two pips on the whistle and he is back at the side of me sat down wanting his bit of corned beef.

the shaddow thing is still going on. chases even very small variation in lights now. even food won't put him off. not sure what to do might try the pound in a can trick, as sugested to solve other problems.

what do you think
