taxidermy dave
one of the farms i shoot on has re drilled a field of rape about 2 weeks ago(as i found out today)what i was wondering was ,will it be worth shooting or do you reckon the birds will be on something else,i would go look but its about an 70-80 mile round trip and dont want to go all the way there for nothing.Which is where you bunch of guys and your experience comes in! cheers dave

However with all the wet stuff we've been having of late and seeing how much barley has gone down (around here at least ) who knows......perhaps they will be spoilt for choice once again and they could be spread out here there and everywhere with little concentrated feeding activity. If you dont fancy doing the 80 mile round trip, you can always pick up the phone and ask the farmer, no?
Highlander
We have some spring rape around here that's ideal for Woody but the fields are so wet the birds are leaving it alone in favour of less muddy conditions, weed covered set aside mainly. TOM'S DAD
usually get some good days down here on spring rape before the barley turns. watching 150-200 birds on 3" high spring rape at the moment, 2 more weeks and i think a good day is on the cards. Shot same fields last year at mid june and had 79 & 152 within a week. Fingers crossed.
rabbitron
best pigeon shooting I've had in years was last year on a field of spring rape ,ended up with a bag of 73 and quite a few 30 + in summer,if they start feeding on it I would expect the farmer to give you a call anyway as they'll soon hammer the crop if left. Shot over the Spring Rape in two different locations on Friday and Sunday Friday was diificult with no wind & very hot, - shot 36 in just over 4 hours Sunday was better, hot but east-westerly breeze, - shot 63 for 81 shots
the hitman
Spring rape always worth watching,in my area its pulls more birds than peas. If its the only farm growing it in the area, you might need to order more cartridges
