BigDave15
Coming home from school today I noticed a pigeon appear from under a car, which drove off. its wing was snapped in half but just hanging on. I put my bag down and chassed the bird into next doors garden and grabbed it I put it in the duck pen and ran up stairs to grab the air gun. I shot the pigeon just behind the eye in the head at close range the flat-headed pellet killed the pigeon instantly with out a twitch. Fealing very pleased with my self and sorry for the poor ****** I began to wonder. Why is it when any animal how ever big or small when it gets hit by a car, the person who hit it shows no consideration for the animal and drives happily away? I’m sure if any of the people here hit an animal on the road then they would do the best they could to put it out of its misery and if they weren’t up to it they would call someone else to finish the thing off If the poor dam thing was dead they would put it to the side of the road. A deer was knocked down outside my house about a year ago instead of moving it the stupid **** left it to get run in to the road. It stank and in the end dad and me had to scrape it off the road. The sad fact is that many of them are proberly the sort of people who would turn around and accuse us of being cruel. What is the matter with these people! red_stag88
I was walking down the main road in rugby back to the house after lessons, when a tree rat ran out and was pullverised, the lady I was standing by shreaked in horror and nearly vomited. I just chuckled. Whats wrong with me?
Cranfield
Its possible that the driver didn,t realise that he had hit the pigein. Especially if it went under the car. Its strange how some people react when a creature is run over. I witnessed a rabbit get hit by a car. The poor rabbit was almost squashed flat from its neck to its tail. The other witnesses would not let me, or anyone else put it out of its misery. They were on their mobiles to the Police and the RSPCA. Eventually, they flagged down a passing Police car and the PC declared the rabbit dead. They all then dispersed and the PC picked the rabbit up on a stick and pitched it over the hedge into the field it had come from. I also find it hard to understand people that spend £100,s on heart surgery for their £2.50 pet hamster. But, then I am just an old cynic. BigDave15
What I dont under stand is why some people leave a dead animal they have hit (Like Badgers And Deer) in the road so the outher cars can motor over it till its squashed into the ground, It doesnt take much to roll the poor thing to the side of the road. red_stag88
I agree, I know two people who have to come and shoot deadish deer. one time the police had hit a nice red stag, they called for my friend he turned up spoke to the police (mind you this is at 2.30 in the morning) He then went back to the van and got his gun on his return to the site, one of the police yelled, "Oh my god, he's got a gun" and fainted. What a fool. Shows the competance of the police (yes i know it's spelt wrong )
BigDave15
What Usally happens is they wait and hour for the R.S.P.C.A then when they get their the animal has proberly died a painfull death or has to be put down anyway. Mind you if you were just coming back from a morning stalk and you hit a deer and got the rifle out and shot the animal and put it out of its misery then the police would proberly have you for a firearm offence. Yorkshire Pudding
So far my tally of kills with the motor is a lot higher than the tally with the gun Not all have been clean kills , but i am very quick to get out of the car and despatch the wounded animal . They are then swiftly picked up and put in the boot of my car . If its a rabbit or such the animal gets bellyed at the roadside. What has upset me most about all the above posts is.......Nobody eats there road kill , whats up with you all a rabbit or pheasant killed by motor is just as tastey as one that has been shot. I don't like my car much so....bring on the roe :( :( all the best yis yp
red_stag88
I tell you a 300lb red does some damage. But it got up an ran away acoording to the driver. Most people stop for the first and hit the second.

Hey Dave u go on about being humane to animals etc surley u should have wrung its neck right away rather than shooting the thing would have been a bit easier eh?? Hammergun
Similar thing happened to me - this woman ran over a rabbit and it back end was squashed and it was screaming in agony, trying to drag itself off with its front paws. However the silly woman was horrified when I got out and wrung its neck. What did she expect me to do? Let it drag itself home and suffer a lingering death? berettaboy
A friend of mine stopped at an accident when a roe buck was knocked down. It was still alive when my friend arrived. He dispatched it by slitting its throat. The woman who knocked it down became hysterical and tried to have him arrested for cruelty when the police eventually arrived. They just laughed at her. Anyhow NEVER eat deer which have been knocked down unless you witnesses how it was dispatched. I have heard of cases in which vets were called to finish off the animal with an injection. This can make the offal if not the meat poisonous.
