grasshopper
This 1 starts back 3 weeks ago, shoot boundary day. Fox was put up but not shot.I sat out 2 nights running, either side of the wood to no avail. Tried a few different areas about, but still no sign. Anyway,1st proper shoot day and our fox appears and makes good it’s escape once more up the side of the valley we don’t have permission. As soon as my shifts were finished,I set up at the top of the valley with my Fox-Pro and Jack in the Box decoy. Out came 3 Hares running into and then away from the decoy.Quite amusing to watch. They scampered when I put a fox call on. An hour after dark, with a rabbit distress call going,I picked out a movement in the NV..1 of the Hares coming back I thought, until I switched on the Infra Red to see 2 bright eyes.Fox did not like the caller and didn’t present a shot or hang about. I moved down the valley hoping to intercept it,but no sign so I went around to the farm where the farmer had been baiting. We set up in the barn only to see old Brock appear and take a chunk of the bait. Did get onto and shoot a Vixen on another part of this farm. This 1 turned up at a duck pond leased out to a fella not in our syndicate, but I have the fox control,so did him a favour really. Saw her some 400yds off but she wouldn’t budge so we got ahead and set up behind a wall.Called her out with the same Rabbit call as earlier and duly despatched her with a shot to the neck as she peered over a mound. came back to the barn and Brock was on his way back to the bait until we lamped him and gave a shout,to which he scampered off with his fat ***** wobbling away behind him Neighbouring shoot put the original fox up on Sat during their shoot..it escaped again. They tried calling it on Sunday night and my mate tried an early morning call but no show for either. I set up as last week on Tuesday evening. As I was waiting for dark I noticed something at the fence…the fox was staring intently at the decoy bouncing about. As there was no backstop, there was no shot, and as if it knew,it stood side on at the fence before slinking off into the wood and no amount of calling would bring it back. I drove around to the other side and had a call but nothing. I left it a night and had a stalk instead..got onto a Doe with a Buck follower, just as I placed the x onto her heart, she caught wind of me and moved off. So a fox the night before in my sights and now a Deer next morn with nothing to show..that’s shooting I suppose. :o Undeterred,I set up tonight with a Pheasant carcass and the caller only to have the landowner drive into the field to check the motor! All was well,he wished me luck and quickly departed. Shoot Captain was supposed to txt him and let him know! I thought no chance now,but persevered. I was about to give up as I was freezing so I started the engine and put the heater on and set a Vixen call away. Would you believe it,out pops the Fox and stares hard at the caller, then at me,then back at the caller.Crack, thump and down it goes.To my surprise,it’s a Vixen.Only the 2nd time I’ve had 1 come to the Vixen call. She was in excellent condition. Tonights set up. How i found her, tells me she went quick. Thanks for reading

Frenchieboy
That was a demned good read mate! At least you got the fox you were after - Exentually, well done! In a way it's good to know that I am not the only one that doesn't get things going exactly to plan when I go out foxing and looking for one particular fox, they can be awkward little devils when they want to can't they, but persistence usually pays off and patience can be a real virtue! Alpha Mule
Have I missed it, or does that mean the dog fox is still running around?

grasshopper
Have I missed it, or does that mean the dog fox is still running around? The fella that shoots the Duck pond drove a whin bank off next day and shot another Vixen, this was only 200yds from where i got the 1st. That's 3 Vixens in near proximity and no Dog...got to be there somewhere :yp: Frenchie...i have patience in abundance when shooting, have learned to smile, roll my sleeves up and try again! If it makes people angry or frustrated, then shooting ain't for them Well done old en Got two Vixens last night in 2 hours not the kitten killer though  Did Jay have to remind you what they looked like :look: good on ya mate

scolopax
Alot of effort for a couple of foxes. Is it really worth it at this time of year ? All birds should be roosting safely and any fox will probably be doing you a favour finding any pricked birds.

This fox was taking Guinea fowl from the farm...the other was ruining the Duck shooting Just about the type of reply i'd expect of you after reading your attitude on the .243 overkill thread. Your obviously just lazy with no respect..so do me a favour and stay off my threads please!

grasshopper
Just as a follow up,had a phone call from the shoot captain today. 1 of the members went to fill his hoppers today and saw the Pheasant hanging on the fence(i left it there to see if anything else was passing)thought foul play was afoot and lifted all his feeders and reported back to the farm with them Pheasant was de-breasted also..and tasted delicious OOPS Think he's in for a ribbing next shoot day On the + side,i must have gotten the 1 i was after
