Thanks for the replies. I have taken the cocker on myself after my friend had second thoughts. I picked him up today and walked him with each one of my dogs one at a time. I must have walked miles!!

Took him out on his own with the whistle and dummies and so far he looks like he will be a good one :D

Update:

Right, I have had Sweep (rascal of the larches) since the first week of June and it has been both rewarding and frustrating to say the least. He came with all his papers, a full vet checkover, and most importantly of all, the list of command words.

The first session went well. I follow NTTF's KISS programme (keep it simple stupid) with the lead, stop, wait/stay and it went well. I done all this without the other 3 around obviously.

A couple of weeks later I started some dummy work. Nice and relaxed and mistakes were not important. All went well until I pulled a dummy out of his mouth with the gums on teeth method. You know what I mean MS and NTT. Big mistake. That took me back a few sessions and is still not perfect now, but thats my fault.

Another week or so and he works cover like a hoover, stops on the whistle, changes direction and goes back on the hand. I still have a little bit of difficulty with him holding the dummy until I want and he occasionaly circles before presenting.

Tonight I took him out just before dark and had to reprimand him physically, scruff of the neck, put him back where he should have stayed. I don't like doing that to a dog normally but it paid off, he worked like a demon after that. I guess I might have been a bit to easy on him and I should have been more forcefull.

They say you should be on a cocker or springers back 24/7 and I think they are right.

He is curled up on my feet now after having raw chicken portions and a bowl full of veg.

Bless him.
