SPEEDY
Hi speedy, I haven't got the experience or time behind the trigger to argue with you, but it sounds really iffy to me. I did read your posts ref the 375 h&h though and its a pretty impressive gun/cal and capable of taking proper big game. I would be interested to know what sort of range a Texas heart shot would be taken at. I have taken “Texas heart shots” on pigs while culling them out to 100m or so with the 260rem and 120gr Nosler BT’s no worries. For Sambar most people who hunt them seriously recommend at least a 30/06 and a strong 180gr pill, with most preferring a 7mm or 300 magnum as about the only shot that you usually get at them is from behind. The 375H&H and 270gr Woodleigh PP that I use would nail any deer in the world at 200m from behind but the truth of the matter with Sambar is that most have been shot at an average of 30m and in most of the country that I have hunted them in that is about as far as you can see 90% of the time. Different countries require different hunting styles.
Dunkield
I shot a red calf front on in the chest (so the opposite end, but the same kind of thing) and the bullet did exactly what it should have done. The insides were a complete mess as you would expect but the meat damage was nil.
new to the flock
The reason most are against the THS when shooting deer is because if the bullet hits bone upon entry, which is most likely the case the rear haunches, and the preachers straps, and possibly part of the back straps are destroyed. Now that said if you are happy with the shot and your gun has enough power to get you there then so be it. After all I shoot raccoons and squirrels out of trees with a rimfire .22 NTTF

We have again I think, the difference between shooting for pleasure (sport) and shooting for control purposes. Ft
