Imperfection
It was military calibre (its really 7.92x57) for the German K98 Mauser service rifle and various heavy machine guns.I have such a rifle and one thing i can say it has hell of a bark to it so the moderator will need to be good. No idea to the thread im afraid though or what type of mod. Edited to add:I know someone who uses a K98 for deer stalking and he did tell me its a devastating calibre for the job. killer_pigeon
my mate wants to use it on wild boar in croatia but did say the noise out of it is devastating !
njc110381
Generally speaking the largest thread that still offers a good shoulder for the mod to rest on is the best bet.
Dunkield
my mate wants to use it on wild boar in croatia but did say the noise out of it is devastating ! 14mm seems to be the new 1/2" UNF But if was him I would make enquiries about using a mod in Croatia anyway, according to some it is illegal according to others they are 'unclassified' either way I wouldn't bother. It would cheaper for him to buy some decent electronic ear defenders which have the additional bonus amplifying the sound of any pigs heading his way - just my 2 cents... You sir are correct, Moderators and the continent do not mix. He wants to use it for boar, a fine caliber , probably only out done by 9.3 x 62. When Boar shooting you are either sitting at night , when one shot alone is difficult enough, or shooting them when driven, in both cases noise of shot is irrelivant! Plugs in if thats your thing and fire away.
mowdy
Nowt wrong with the 8x57(7.92) noise is not a problem when shooting pigs and you are not shooting lots of rounds as on a range. If your mate is bothered by the noise try ear plugs as I am 99% sure that Mods are banned for hunting in Croatia any way .
