sako751sg
Had a phone call last Thursday from a fella saying the park across from his workshop was full of geese so organised to meet there on Friday morning. That night was horrendous with the wind and heavy rain, but by daylight everything was solid with ice but a superb wind was still brewing and on getting there there was 100ish pinks already in.I hadnt seen the park before,so was pretty blind deciding where to place the deeks but decided to put them where the only cover was a stane dyke due to the wind direction.Putting them out was a rush job as the sky was full of geese in all directions, and thats when the choice of our position was shown to be **** although there were not many other better choices either.Even with the wind, they were keeping highish with us being exposed but we still managed a a puckle shots, but they were very near the limit.Unfortunately i was the only one to take any down, and ended up with five which we were still delighted with. Some very testing shots and to get this many was unexpected and would have been better if the old fella and Davie(mate) had managed to down something. If the wind had been a different direction then the flight would have been something else as all the birds were looking to come in.We stopped about 10am with the birds still trying to use the park so maybe get another morning from them later. That was very good shooting as well, high geese in high wind are a real test for a wingshooter. Spoken like a true sportsman being concerned about your companions bag as well. Good job!! Used to go goose shooting with the old fella from probably 6 years old and its still very special. The guides of pretty much monopolised it here so when we get the chance its great. Top work mate well done!! :good: Cheers Alex. Excellent pics and write up Dave. That was very good shooting as well, high geese in high wind are a real test for a wingshooter. Spoken like a true sportsman being concerned about your companions bag as well. Good job!! Cheers Timothy.Always better to share the bag a bit,esp with the ones getting on a bit and whose shooting days might be a lot less than mine.Very testing birds, and must say that i was using 35g of 5s in Gamebore Black Gold and they seemed on the ball. Nice pics Cheers Tom.
