motty
you are joking rite? 26 is less a 1 quauter of what was feeding, you say you like to see 1000 feeding to get a good bag?? what would you call a good bag then from a 1000 pigeons? From only seeing 200 on a field, i would call 26 a reasonable bag at this time of year. In summer, where birds can be flighting into and out of a field all day long, seeing 200 on a field could mean there are maybe 2000 birds using it, meaning a big bag could be on the cards. In winter, if i see 200 birds feeding at 1pm, chances are that's all that is using that field as birds aren't tooing and froing back to nests etc.So, that's why i said i'd rather see 1000 feeding on rape, the chance of a good bag will be higher. Understand?

Understand? You are spot on. Too often you see 2-300 on a field, but that is the sum total of birds using it. I know it probably will be a poor day but the farm manager or landowner tends to get jittery so we go and give it a go. It's all about good PR at this time of year! Shooting Tom
its all well and good seeing 200 birds on a field or even 1000 birds on a field. this time of year you have one shot and the whole group moves on, not to be seen again. more people out shooting the better. or you want to find a fight line where smaller groups use. or is it just me having this problem

kamsin
Once i though i was in for a great day shooting on eone of the fields, there most of been close to 500 birds feeding. I had been ask by the landowner not to shoot before 7.30 as this field was close to some houses (Sound wise, not as in shot wise) and the farmer did not want any one gettin gwoken up before then. I got set up, pigeons just sat watching me,got hide up, again just sat watching me, had a quick coffee and waited till 7.30. It was now 7.15 so only 15 minutes to go, then at dead on 7.25 every frigging bird flew off for no reason. It was just like some one shouted "Come on boys he going to start shooting us in 5 minutes" I kid you not, you had to see it to belive it. Surely you want the birds to fly off, then come back so you can shoot them. What do you think would have happened after your first shot?
