You can get brand new sporters for that kind of money but beware, far better to buy a used 'better' quality gun (e.g. Browning, Beretta, Miroku) I reckon. You'll lose less money and you'll have a better gun.

The good thing also - if you're buying used - is that you can and should try it out first. You specifically said a sporter so you'll be using it predominantly for clays I guess? Don't buy one without shooting the discipline you enjoy with it a few times.

got my eye on a lincoln premier 20 bore simply for a change to the 12g as i have the beretta 303 wich is the main clay gun and the 20 would be a change and would not make a mess of the pigeons and also would be a bit easier on the shoulder also it fits me perfect.because its such a lite gun it will be easier to carry about in the field all day and around the clay ground

By getting a 20 bore instead of a 12 bore will not reduce the recoil if using gramme for gramme cartridges as the 20 bores will be lighter and don't obsorb the recoil as much as a 12 bore, which you will find the 20 bore hurting your shoulder.

If you are concerned about the effects of recoil, why not shoot a 12 bore but if possable use lighter cartridges.

im not bothered about recoil massivly but the 12 after 50 to 100 continuous shots starts to make my shoulder and cheek sore also i have just bought the 20 bore about 20 min ago picking up 2 moz

The above poster is correct about like for like recoil on a 20 bore. If you shoot 21 or 24 gram it will be softer.
