Frank
I pefer the older series,a cook on the wild side and TV dinners.Te one tht sticks out best was TV Dinners where a couple who had a child decided to keep the placenta and use it as part of the celebration of the birth. They made it into a paté and best of all a veggie friend decided to have some as she said that nothing had died to provide the paté.I think that woman deserved a round of applause Dont fancy eating some of that personally. Christ, I was just about to tuck in to a greasy fried egg sandwich with tomato sauce when i read that.... I think ill have the Museli now. There was 4 of them I recall does that mean 25 placent each... Even worse , Im on the Museli too FM
Quist
Well, put it this way, I can take Hugh Fernlea Whittingstall but I can't take Bill Oddie That suprises me a little.... Bills shows are about reality whereas Hughs are all done with smoke and mirrors. The guy is from a wealthy family, can afford to adopt the self sufficient lifestyle and in fairness makes a good programme. You dont seriously think he eats all that **** he serves up do you.if he did he would probably **** through the eye of a needle I saw him in a supermarket once and it wasnt elderflower cordial and lentils in his shopping trolley more like best moet and angus steak. I was also at the race meeting in bath when he sold the bunny burgers and I can tell you not many of them were eaten. Still it makes good viewing because the hunter gatherer lifestyle triggers a latent inbred desire in us all. I always chuckle when he murdered that version of baba o' reilly in the pub after eating a load of magic mushrooms FM. The difference is that HFW doesn't pretend to know everything and knows when to go and ask for help from country people who really do know their stuff. Bloddie thinks he knows it all and starts telling country people how to live as if they were museum curators instead of people trying to make a living in the country. I was praying for that badger to **** down him

Couldn't agree more, does it really matter that HFW's parent are loaded and his sister is a producer. How many here would give their right arm to do what he does. I am quite sure that it is all editted to make good TV but does that matter. I am sure that John Wilson or Matt Hayes don't go fishing for a half hour and fill a keep net up with fish! Still if you don't like it there is always Coronation Street Cheers Martin (I like River Cottage ) FM, It was Pigeon Pitta Pockets at Bath Racecourse which probably explains why not many bunny burgers were eaten. SNAKEBITE
If you take the shows with the view that they are edited to make good television then how can you not like it? The blokes family might be loaded but I can only guess at what he makes at the river cottage HQ. If you look on his website he charges a shed load of cash for a guided fishing trip, mushroom picking and what ever else is seasonal at the time. It might not even be him that shows you round, it could be one of the team. Anyway I think he deserves a bit of a pat on the back for opening up peoples eyes to what can go on outside of a supermarket.
lord_seagrave
His attitudes to food and food purchasing are wholly commendable. Moreover his recipes are excellent. LS

The early Cook on the Wildside and River Cottage stuff got me into farmers' markets. And my kleptomania got me thrown out of farmers' markets...
