tagwag
hello i bought my first shotgun 6 months ago a lanber 28" m/c and have had no problems untill today. after firing the second barrel the top lever open and the gun breaks open. anyone have any clues as to the cause? cheers martin
Down South
Martin, I've heard of this happening on O/U guns. It can be due to the barrels being "off the face". That is to say that there is sufficient wear in the mechanism to allow the barrels to stand off the breach. There should be no gap between the rear end of barrels and the breach block. If the gun has had a hard life then there will be various key parts that may well be worn and the shock of the discharge throws the gun open because the action is not tight. Not a good thing to happen. Needless to say you should find a good gun smith to have a look.

Graham M
Sounds like the top lever spring may have broken. G.M.
the last engineer
you'll find its the locking spring for the top lever, some do fatigue faster than others, i have seen guns less than a year old loose tension and open, the more older guns can be prone to it, the recoil is enough to bounce the spring therefore releasing the block and allowing the barrels to drop. take it to a smith and while its there have him give it a once over for anyother defects, it may cost you a few bucks more but you'll sleep better knowing the gun functions correctly.
