Matt Gould
hello again people, at this time of the year i am shooting on decoying pigeons rape like the rest of most of us and i have recently brought a pigeon magnet, what i would like to know is how high do you guys set your pigeon magnet arms for decoying on short rape ? im guessing if you set them pretty high it would be good for standing crops but i am a bit stuck to know what to use on rape? do i have them running flat so the birds are just kind of skimming the rape or do have them a lifted a little hmmmmm also could i have one arms running flat and the other a little lifted.........? what do you guys do Thanks Matt

Redditch
I run them about 1ft above the crop I'm shooting, max 2 ft I just adjust the height of the boom, sometimes have to bend the arms slighty Edited January 5, 2012 by Redditch

chrispti
Attach two flappers to the magnet, tape the batteries and excess wire to the base of the arms. Have them just above the crop with the magnet on a slow speed Works awesome on laid wheat/barley too
motty
One arm high the other low and set the stake at an angle to give the impression of a bird swooping in. In my experience, there is no need to do this.
chris t
Interesting what people do on this one... I use hypaflaps, which can be a effected by the wind a bit. So when windy I set it lower, but when there is little wind I set it as high as it will go, so that birds further away have a greater chance of seeing it. In reality it probably makes little difference, but it makes me feel better. Also the land around here is a bit hilly so high is better for me. yickdaz
In my experience, there is no need to do this. no i don,t see the point of it meself, if anything it will unbalance the rotary and rock itself free of the ground and fall over as well as no avantage to gain doing it, as long as the birds on the cradles can be seen above a crop thats enough
