luvbus
Just a quick thank you to Beverley Clay Target Club for the great customer service today. I just picked up a new gun and wanted to run a few cartridges through it to get my eye in. Normally I would have run across to Brandesburton but I was short on time and BCTC is 1/4 of a mile away so I thought I would drop in there. The chap there dropped what he was doing to take me through one of the sporting layouts and trap for me. He was very pleasant & chatty and even helped me pick up the spent cases from the auto! Sounds like they are planning to offer much more in the way of sporting targets and friendly atmosphere. So a big from me and I'll deffo be going back. casts_by_fly
Rich, Whereabouts are you? I'm in Bishop burton, so close. I've never shot there, only Brandesburton and Monkton. What do they offer and what are the prices (at least compared to Brandes burnton)? It is a place where 1 or 2 guys culd go shoot on their own or do you need to have a group? Thanks Rick

Thanks Rick I'm in Leconfield so close by. The guy seems really eager to get people in and offer the shooting they are after. The sporting traps he has set up need a trapper rather than the electronic set up at Brands but as I said the guy was eager to drop everything to keep customers happy so cannot see a problem in small numbers going. He charged me the equivalent of member rates of £5 per 25 clays, not sure if he is planning on doing discount days like Brands, have to wait & see. If you want to meet up & try it out let me know.... How is the set up at Monkton? Every time I have dropped in to try it out it has been closed! Rich
Toon Pigeon
I checked out there website the other day, membership fee's seem reasonable as does the price for clays. Definetly going to pop in there as I only live down the road, its good to have something like that on the door step. My link
Azzurri
Called up there today with a mate, haven't been for a while and was pleasantly supprised Ian & Hamish are making real efforts to move the place forewards which can only be good news for Northern Clayshooters, hopefully the days of squabbling and fighting are over now and I wish the club well for the future :good: As mentioned earlier they are planning on holding some sporting shoots again so I hope people turn up to show their support,I certainly will Azzurri

I'll be up for the sporting days when I am at home... It was fairly quiet, perhaps the usual crowd were waiting for 'Pension Day' before they have a shot  We gave the sporting a good hammering but missed a few (lot) on the Dtl,but that's another story Azzurri

They used part of the ground that was the shot fallout area from the trap layouts. I remember walking over a carpet of shot thay today would probably be worth 100's of thousands of pounds. Will probably give it a go if they have a registered comp. It will make a change to travel 70+ miles East rather than the same distance South Potter

The shot reclaiming equipment is there right now. They are hoping to raise enough cash for a new club house!!

How is the set up at Monkton? Every time I have dropped in to try it out it has been closed! Rich Hi Rich, I like Monkton a lot because it is very informal. This time of year there aren't a ton of guys shooting. When I've gone and been the only guy (or group) shooting, they give you the controller and tell you to go to it. There are 4 different layouts (maybe more) which you can further vary by changing your standing position (providing you're the only one there). They guys running it are always really nice to talk to. I get the feeling that the people who shoot there are more experienced (compared to Brandesburton) and know how things work so they are a little more relaxed. Monkton doesn't have any trap/skeet layouts, rather it is geared to a game shooter looking to improve their shooting more than a target shooter who is shooting game like targets. I really like Monkton. Thanks, Rick

casts_by_fly
Rich, Weekdays are tough this time of year since I work until 5 or so every day. Weekends are doable though. I was just at Monkton on Saturday with some friends. Weather was great. I'm going to the East Yorkshire shoot this Sunday (check the meet up board). If you want to shoot on weekends, shoot me a PM since I'm not always on this board. Thanks Rick
