ciaran
Just out of curiosity, does anyone know how to remove the crimp/bung in a beretta semi - auto shotgun?
chris t
if you mean out the mag tube, then that would mean having the gun transfered to a firearms certificate. New mag tube normally the easy way. Unsure about how to remove crimp. probably not worth the hassle.

Would also need to get it re-proofed
HDAV
Really? I thought it would only need proofing to sect 2 not proofing to "not sect 2" However the op may be in Ireland where it's somewhat different I think everything inc an airgun is FAC but you can have a handgun....... ciaran
I don't understand? I already have my shotgun on a firearm certificate otherwise I wouldn't be able to own one, I think it may be different in Ireland alright? HDAV
Because removing a crimp in the uk is illegal (potentially) its probably best not discussed in public but I am sure a phone call to your local berretta dealer will clarify the options new mag tube being obvious solution seems odd to have sold you a uk sect 2 spec one in the first place and not a normal 5 shot Try a us based forum as they have state 2state variations and quarry restrictions related to magazine size so probably more au fair with the procedure as they don't have a 5 year term hanging over them for doing it. Sandbank
I may be wrong, but I think the maximum capacity of most standard, un-restricted Beretta tubes is 3 i.e. giving you a 4 shot. Going to section 1 for an extra round probably not worth the effort. Very significant modifications required, probably including fore-stock in increase this capacity. If you are keen to maximise capacity, consider Practical Shotgun as a discipline. Can then legally own a 14-shot !!!

chris t
The 391 urika 2 will go to a 4 shot. Just a quick change of the magazine tube. Very simple. No other changes needed. Have had it done. Kept the old tube, so that it can be changed back.
Andy H
You might be lucky and expand the crimp out but normally they are quite deep and the actual crimp may be work hardened, That will mean the metal is harder than a woodpeckers lips and the dent expander will not work just distorting the mag tube, Forget raising the crimp and fit a new mag tube. Sandbank
Laws of NI are different! Ok, I take your point on that, nevertheless most modern Berettas will not go beyond 4 shot. In UK, a crimp in the tube is used, many just require the factory installed plastic spacer to remain in place. This likely still need to be removed, instructions given in the Beretta handbook. SneakyD
My Northern Ireland firearms certificate says that you need special authorization to have a shotgun that holds more than two cartridges in the magazine. But jst for educational reasons check out this video :yp:

You need to heat the joint to melt the glue in the thread of the mag and the receiver.

silverhawk
Drum mag? other wise the mag tube would be 60"+ long if chambered for 3" Yep a drum mag.Although I have seen a benelli m2 with the tube 5inch longer then the barrel and that was 14 rounds .The beretta urika holds no more the 4 rounds on fac. ciaran
Would you not have to remove the crimp in a gun anyway, if you were to get a magazine extension? Edited January 13, 2012 by ciaran
