well had the erge to buy a new gun so went to shop and found a new beratta a300 and price was very cheap for a beratta so i got it, was 838 and i traded my franchi in for 200 same as what i paid for it at same shop.

well the gun feels nice to hold has no special wood or engraving but thats fine because it will be for hunting and clays only. i will be taking it out today to see how well it goes, it feels lighter than my hatsan escort and also has sling studs so that a bonus for me

has any one else any experience of this gun what do you think or know about it.

thanks

well i have been out with it today!

i was told to put 200 32g carts to run it in but think this was just to make me buy some lol as i used 28grams and cycled fine done maybe a 150 carts tops,

i did try some 2 1/2 24g gram but they didnt cycle i think because of the length but there was no 2 3/4 availible to try.

as to handling in the terms of if fitting me and the weight its brilliant for what i want i am lefthanded but doesnt put me off using rh action as stock is ambi!

as to recoil my hatsan escort has less and feels far nicer in the shoulder.

loading the cartidges into the tube was so nice and smooth and a pleasure to do so no complaints there

choke.... im unsure what size it is i will check it later but quite tight, i struggled a llittle in the wind today and was using both my guns and hit a bit more with my hatsan i think the choke is more open on hatsan as kept checking both were tight with my finger and could fit it further in on hatsan so i may need either more practice or more of a open choke on beratta

all in all would i buy another .......NO i would not i prefer my hatsan becuase its cheep and cheerful and can buy 2 for that price lol

IF i was to buy another semi id like to try one with kickoff but im tight *** and has to many guns allready.... please bare in mind im shotgun newbie and can only compare to my hatsan escort, as my other guns are either pump or single shot.

BUT BIG BUT

WITH this gun you are buying into quality and performance from a very reputable company. so yes its a good gun feels good just im used to the recoil on my hatsan now but both fit the same and both do the same job to be fair

To make it fair, you are used to your escort.

Chopping and changing guns is no good, you need to use your new gun ONLY, for a few weeks/month, then have another go with the escort  you will then notice the differences :good:

ok i will just use the one gun on my next few outings to see how its goes as was using both today

Can you weigh it on some decent scales and let us know exactly how heavy it is :good:

hi, no access to any scales im afraid but its lighter than hatsan escort plastic version

I would imagine better balanced to ? I agree with chrispti, you need to give it a few weeks to get used to it. I was terrible for chopping and changing but stick to my beretta now.

I picked up my old auto a week ago before I sold it and I shot quite well with it before. Lifted it to my shoulder and it felt front heavy and unwieldy.

I'm sure after using that your Hatsan will feel like a action man gun. I would like to have a go with one to see what they are like.

Please keep us updated if you can as to how you find it reliability and shooting wise if that's cool ?

I bought a Beretta A300 Outlander late December. Indeed joined Pigeon Watch to reply to an earlier thread referring to the Outlander. Wrote this Jan. 7th.

I broke the connecting rod in my 15 year old AL390 gold mallard just before Christmas. Guessing no repair before the New Year I bought an A300 Outlander. In fairness to GMK, replacement rod turned up 23rd. December.

Impressions of the A300 Outlander:

Very plain and unimposing at first sight. The wood would not look out of place on a Diana 0.177 air rifle. However timber is of good weight and solid, and is beginning to look nice with careful oiling. Initial reaction, much lighter than my AL390 but on the scales under 2oz difference. Centre of gravity closer to the stock than many of its predecessors.

The narrow top rib and prominent bead foresight indicate it was designed for the field rather the clay ground. However after around 500 rounds of 'Sporting' can say this is, as Beretta suggest, a soft-shooting, slick handling semi. that can fulfil either purpose.

Have read this gun is mostly Benelli but action and receiver appears standard Beretta to me. The gas compensation is definitely a hybrid, much simpler and easier to clean than the 390. Clearly 391 derived but to quote press blurb: 'scientifically optimised preserving the shotgun from unnecessary wear and increasing its life' which has been achieved by drilling only one of two the gas receiver ports through to barrel! Alarmed me when I first cleaned it but confirmed by GMK as correct!

In conclusion: an unpretentious Beretta semi which handles well, ok for field or clay and is robust enough for most challenges.

Found action very tight at first, Beretta place a big yellow sticker on the outside of the case instructing use of 32g minimum avoiding low energy fibre wads for a run-in period (this not specified).

Mine has now fired over 1000 Eley Superb 28g 7.5 plastic wads which it as flawlessly cycled from new (I ignored the 32g instruction). The action is now much smoother and guess would now be more forgiving of lighter loads.

The gun still feels lighter than my AL390 and is now a very pleasant gun to use. The single choke is nominally 1/2 but does seem to shoot tighter. Walnut oil and bees wax is starting to make the woodwork look pretty good now.

I wish you well with yours theosmith. Any new gun will take a while to get used to, I think you will find the Outlander gets better after a few hundred shells.
