Keeperchris
Hi All, Have any of you got any experience with pampas grass for game cover? I am considering it for planting in between rows on a new woodland to help with early years cover. We are not allowed to plant artichokes (my first choice)as it is classed as an agricultural crop and we would void our grant if we did, so hence the out of the box thinking!! Cheers c

Billy.
Just don't plant it outside your house, unless you're into that stuff, of course

Keeperchris
Cheers all been reading up and I dont think they r for us. Gonna go with canary grass, easy to establish and will hopefully get tussocky over a couple of years.
wy111
I'm having a go a growing my own, to provide extra cover etc. as I need to make a new drive on our shoot. I got 500 seeds from the Bay of E, I think £3.50 and are just starting to come through. Gonna be a load of potting to be done soon Not sure if they will be ready for planting out this year, but certainly next year, just have see how they go. A BIG shoot I occasionally beat on, last few years had fields of the stuff and boy did it hold birds well. New keeper this year, sprayed most of it off for more Maize, but as the drives have all switched around, it's hard to tell if better or worse. We can only try and see what the outcome is

Has anyone tried growing any elephant grass for game cover,I have a friend who grows for bio-fuel and it holds pheseants well you just dont want to be a walking gun though , just wondered how it would grow in the bottom of a wood to give ground cover.
