Frank
Iv won, im getting ferrets, at long last. I talked the wife into me getting them and im over the moon. She is still not happy about the whole thing , but i will try and proove her rong. She is still worried about her little dog, but i have assured her it will be fine. I have to keep them in a hutch though and in the wooden shed i have, as she does not want to look at them in the garden. Im a bit worried about the hot weather we sometimes have in the summer. I will leave the door open for them, so prehaps it wont be too bad. Any suggestions? I am advertising for a good hucth at the moment, but might get someone to build one, whats the best wood to use? Ferretboy111
Congrats mate, i started off with 2 and now have 19 so im sure u will get addicted 2. I made my hutches out of thick plywood, too thick if im honest. The hutches for rabbits are usually too small so a home made one is way better and stronger, id put thick square mesh aswell on the front to replace the usual chicken wire as they cant get their teeth in it to have a go at the bars. Mine are in an old barn so that keeps them kool, but aslong as the hutch isnt in full sun and is ventilated you should be fine. good show!, ask any other questions if u want

They seem to be fairly big, some of them and have strong square mesh for the front. It would need to be touched up a bit to make it ferret proff prehaps, like the locks ect. The only thiong that puts me off them is the price , very expensive for what they are. I have advertised to see if anyone near me has a hutch suitable for them. I know a couple of carpenters too, so might get them to do it on the cheap for me, will see. Iv had ferrets before, but it was a while ago, back in the early 90s, when i was single and prices have gone up since. Frank.
henry d
You`l get a lot of info here Frank http://homepage.ntlworld.com/ferreter/index.htm I would advise that you keep ferrets as cool as possible as they can stand the cold but the heat will kill them VERY quickly. Once your missus sees the little tykes she`ll go all soppy as mine did, well either that or freak Welcome to the world of furry eels

Ferretboy111
Yeah when i started out i started to look at the rabbit hutches and thought OMG they were like 80 quid for a small one, so i thought id pay 20 notes for a big sheet of plywood and make one, so ive made 2 huge ones which are indistructable, only trouble im having at the moment is that the hinges are starting to rust where their toilet area is because of their corrosive urine, but nothing major, its only because of the 11 kits ive got. Iv actually just come off the phone to the pet shop, they have a 4ft by 3 ft one, rabbit hutch, tounge and groove wood, with legs, for 102 Euro , would be cheaper over in the UK, but it sounds good? Im getting a bit eager, Frank.
Ferretboy111
Get and have a thorough look at them, dont forget the lil ferrets are going to be staying there all day and night, with my hutches because i made them rather tall i could put a hammock easily in clearing the ground, they dont use the sleeping compartment now only the hammocks, ill get pics of my layout tomorrow so you can see. Ferret Master
Hi, Frank, I will just go and take a photo of my court now to show you some things that could go off the ground to ammuse them. Have you seen the ferret courts post as my cub and court are there but I have had things added since? FM
Ferret Master
Hi, Here are a few photos to give you a few ideas: The cub showing the planks with chicken wire stapled to them that go around the sides and the platform that they like to lie and play on. A close up from inside showing the platform with the walkway leading up to it. Another close up but of Nippy and Grace in the hammock looking a bit tired. I would really recommend one of these because they enjoy sleeping in it during hot weather. FM
