SGC re-application

Recommended Posts

My son let his cert expire. He re-applied in September 2011. His cheque was cashed immediately. Had the visit last month but still no cert.

I applied to renew my cert last month. Cheque still not cashed.

Was there a question/suggestion/problem there?

It is not uncommon to wait a month, or a lot more after an interview for any certificate...and last month was only yesterday! :good::good:

The current rumor going around is ALLEGEDLY that Kent in particular are being slow on renewals on purpose, their office looks like an explosion in a paper mill and that they are actively seeking reasons to revoke certs, don`t know if it`s true but there has to be some reason why renewals and variations are taking so long.

I spoke to my FEO the other day, I asked about certs in the post and with the FEO and wanted to know could i legally shoot without a cert in my possesion. He said yes take a copy and any officer that stops you can radio through to the national data base to confirm you are licensed

The reminder/renewal documents also state that if renewal does not complete by the cert expiry date you can both shoot and retain your guns. I would have thought that we could do no other.

3 people i shoot with sent theirs in 3 months early and they got returned.

I don't quite follow that, my region actually sends out the reminder/forms 3 months before expiry, do you mean that time scale or do you mean 6 months before expiry, ie 3 months before normal reminder period!

I see no reason why any region would return renewals sent in 3 months early.

For some reason my region got efficient with my recent coterminous renewal, and for the first time in my life I received certificates that didn't actually start for about a month after I received them, ie when my old ones expired. So there is obviously no problem in principle about issuing post dated certificates. :hmm::good:

Has there been a big increase in SGC applications in recent times , or cut backs in staff slowing all paperwork down ? , mine grant took 2 weeks to the day , interviewed after a week then cert arrived on Monday just one week later.

I was a previous cert holder until till 2 yrs ago and son is holder at same address and the FEO knew us from previous visits so that seem to speed things up .

Not sure. One of the big problems is caused by the fact that one upon a time certs were only valid for three years. This means that there is a period of three years when there are more renewals due to people who were on the previous three year stystem coming up for renewal. Obviously then there will be a two year period where there is less work. I think it's likely that staffing numbers are based on the two year lull, rather than the whole five year period, if you see what I mean?
