Why all this shooting using rests

I used to shoot in the RN years ago with 22,303 & 762 using no4's and SLR the only help we were allowed was a strap to wrap around your arm as a steady, open sights at all ranges.......Does anyone shoot these days from laying down, Kneeling or standing using open sights with no rests or do you just see the gun as a cold lump of metal to be used as a tool :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: :hmm:

That is because with the Navy we were shooting people with FMJ`s and a hit anywhere was good, an injured deer running across a field is no use to anyone...........simples.

i use sticks/bi-pod or random tree to shoot because i'm not that good at offhand hats off to anyone who is, i know my limitations and always try to shoot within them and that means shooting aided, i'm more excited by a clean kill than a offhand one.

The rules of marksmanship

1. Never stand when you can kneel

2. never kneel when you can sit

3. never sit when you can lie

4. never shoot unaided when you can use an aid

Scopes and open sights has been done to death for the last 100yrs, they both have advantages and it is up to the marksman to make the best choice to suit his situation. Rifle shooting is not a game of chance
