M.I.A
Thought i would share my experience over the last few weeks I have been going out quiet reguallary with a friend after some foxes, first night we went out and drew a blank. Second night we were scanning the fields and picked up a set of eyes down the hedge row only about 100yds or so away. So we quietly got out the truck, my friend gave a few squeeks and i fired up the lamp down the hedge row, not a single thing in sight! off goes the lamp and a few more squeeks later i scanned the hedge row and still nothing, so i quickly scanned out into the field to the right.... you guessed it nothing... i then flicked it over to the field to our left and low and behold there it was almost within kicking distance a rushed shot from the .22-250 missed it totally. to our amazement it only trotted off not like they normally would and head for the hills. Unfortuantly the chance of a 2nd shot was not deemed safe so was not taken. We spent the next few hours trawling the thousends of acres at our disposal but nothing much about. The next night we sat up in an old curtain sider awaiting the arrival of a fox that we had seen a few nights prior hanging around the chicken pens, we sat up for around 30 mins before venturing out to scan the field we instantly pick up a set of eyes in the top right hand corner. Lucky for MR fox he stayed there, no safe shot was possible. In the same field where the chickens are is a cage trap, that night he had tripped it off but again luck was on his side and he escaped Anyway back to Wednesday, my friend called me up and asked if i fancied a trip out. After a brew and chat we set off on our usual route, first few fields showed nothing. Set off to the next village and pulled into a rather large block of rape fields, (these fields where i spotted a fox behind a muck heap about 40 yards from me a week or so prior lucky for him he was off across the road not to be seen again that night) in that very same field we spotted a set of eyes a good 300+ yards out. off went the wagon and i got onto the roof with the lamp, my friend used the window of his car as a rest and we begain to squeek, a few mins later i flicked on the lamp he was slowly but surely getting closer, repeated this a few times till he got to about 100yards, i held the lamp just off center and awaited the bark from the .22-250 but it didnt come. off the lamp went and i called to my friend who couldnt see it as there was a dip in the field. he joined me on the roof but by this time he was long gone, back to the bottom of the field a good 300+ yards away. We had plenty more ground to cover so thought we would return here once we had done the rounds. We drew a total blank on the rest of the land, saw plenty of barn owls which was nice too see but nothing in the form of MR Fox. We were now nearing the small hours so we returned to the block of fields we had been previously too, we drove down the track and saw absolutely nothing! frustrated we turned around and my friend decided to have one last look in the field we had seen mr fox as soon as the lamp went on he said "fox" this time we were both on the roof, after a few squeeks the lamp went back on and he was still at the bottom but looked interested. A few more of the same saw him come as far as he felt comfortable roughly 200yards away, i kept the lamp on him and one final squeek he stood proud, the unmoderated .22-250 barked followed by a reasuring thud! thats the noise i have longed to hear for a few weeks now. We approached down the track on which he was stodd to find him lay there. a clean shot to center mass, he was a nice sized dog fox in good condition
