Gimlet
Can anyone tell me how long an HMR barrel should last? That is how many rounds. Someone in the trade told me 3000 rounds the other day. I was a newcomer to the hummer when I bought mine 2 years ago, I hope its not going to be knackered just when I've sussed out how it ticks and come to rely on it. I confess I don't know much about magnum rimfire rounds, having always been a .22lr man, but that doesn't sound right to me. 2500 fps is hardly barrel burning velocity. According to my ticket I've stuck about 2200 through mine. If Mr I'd-like-to-sell-you-another-hmr is right he may have to by September. I hope he isn't. Dave-G
My Quad barrel has seen over 6000 rounds through it now I reckon. I don't bother checking groups any more as it just keeps doing what I need to headshot bunnies for the butcher.
malkiserow
I would be tempted to ask..... Has anyone worn out a .17HMR barrel?
kent
When it was launched there was much talk of this. However the powder it burns is paltry, you will stuggle to get the barrel more than warm and it only does around 2500 fps. As i have never seen a shot of HMR personally i suggest you cant shoot one out in a lifetime though you can ruin a barrel many other ways
casts_by_fly
you can wear out a HMR barrel pretty easily... if you rechamber it to a 17 BR and stick it on a different action. With just a HMR cartridge though I think it be pretty tough. Thanks, Rick

I ask because me knows nuffin about BR
Gimlet
My informant also said that CZ have started machining their actions to facilitate easy rebarrelling and are supplying replacement barrels to meet demand after a number of burn-outs. Can't say Ive heard of this which is surprising given the number of CZ devotees on PW. As Kent says, the HMR doesn't really fit the profile of a barrel burner. .17 Fireball maybe. If I've got to buy a new HMR every 3 years I'll be joining the Hornet club.
Hornet 6
My Annie 1517 had over 14k rounds through it and shot as well when I sold it as when it was new, I personally don't think you could wear an HMR barrel out in normal use My informant also said that CZ have started machining their actions to facilitate easy rebarrelling and are supplying replacement barrels to meet demand after a number of burn-outs. CZ now machine their actions so the barrels are interchangable because the yanks like that. But mostly they changed the way they make them to save money, the other step backwards in the change to the 455 is only one locking lug. Neil. Doesn't the cocking lever act as the second lug as on the weihrauch
Hornet 6
Doesn't the cocking lever act as the second lug as on the weihrauch That is the only lug on a 455, the lower one that runs in the bottom of the action on a 452 is now missing. cooter
I would be tempted to ask..... Has anyone worn out a .17HMR barrel? +1. According to my ticket my HMR has done over 10,000 rounds and I bought it second hand. Still knocks over bunnies at silly distances without any drama.
