Barrelman
Hello, Thought I'd say Hello. I've just started pigeon shooting from scratch this year (March). Got myself some permission, gun and some decoys. This forum has been excellent as I have taught myself so far using the forum and a couple of books. I'm up in East Yorkshire. I've not managed to find the pigeons round here in any real numbers. (yet). However I set up a couple of weeks go on some new peas and had a great afternoon. Only got 20 or so birds into the pattern but got 7 of them ( I've only shot 100 cartridges in my life). The feeling when they start to land exactly where you want them is one I wont soon forget. Just managed to make myself a magnet from a wiper motor that works fine in principle. Doing lots of walking with my head in the air looking for flight lines on my permission. I keep you posted. Cant wait to find the birds in numbers. I hope and get the impression from the forum that harvest should bring the results Cheers

Not a bad bunch on here - although some do sound a bit grumpy when their cartridge/kill ratio is as bad as mine. If you set your standards low (as I do), then just to be out in the open air is reward enough. Don

We hardly had a bird come into our pattern all afternoon (and missed/didnt even shoot at the very few that did). Learnt loads though just watching flight lines. That were just off from where we set our hide!!!!! Couldnt get any birds in o put on my new home made magnet. We got caught in a torrential downpour and stood under a tarpauline for 20 minutes watching the rain knocking our decoys over and covering them in the mud!!!!! Never seen rain like it but we stayed dry and had a laugh to boot. Just getting out into the country away from the everything for a few hours. Thats what its been all about for me so far. Each time I go out I learn something and the pigeon kills WILL improve as I learn more. Cheers Mat
