Ferrets and hot weather

I was busy building an extension to my ferret court and my 8 y.o. jill was not eating and had the squitters as well as being listless so to say the least I was concerned.

I put a small frozen pop bottle of water in the sleeping quarters and put hessian sacks soaked with water over the roof and mesh front just to cool it down :good:

I had to go to my Nephews graduation and thought that I would come back to a corpse :good: and had even thought that she would be better taken out for one final walk in the woods  however I decided to see what she was like later and then decide her fate.

I was a bit nervous when we returned, but low and behold, she was eating in the cool of the evening  and next morning she was running about looking for her next feed.

So I had gone from thinking it would be better to put her out of her misery(or as it happens discomfort)to seeing her as right as rain in less than 24 hrs.

Just remember all you ferret owners that heat will kill easier than cold.

some time back i had to take a jill and her litter to the vets, got there fine, on the return a short trip, got in the garden opened the travel box i thought they were all dead, the heat had got to them in a short time, i scooped them up and threw them in the kids paddling pool, i was lucky they all survived

Its amazing how hot it can get in box....in a car on a warm day.

There was a case locally where some 'mindless *****' left his dog in the car while he popped into the super market................................the outcome..............................one dead dog.. ;)

be aware...................
