mick miller
I have taken my Burris Fullfield off the .22lr as I need to use a scope with an adjustable parallax for the nitesite to function properly. Now the little bits of tape that line the mounts have gone all gooey and fallen apart, some stuck to the scope, some left on the mounts. I guess that stuff is there for a reason so I was thinking of using some insulation tape (almost as universally multifunctional as gaffa) to replace it but wondered if there's anything better or more suitable? Advice please folks. Should I just not bother with it?
Wharf Rat
Without the tape its easy to drop your scope when you demount it I find, but you may not be as clumsy as me...
mick miller
Um, yup. So what would you use to replace it once its gone all gooey and no longer in one piece? I just had a thought though, micropore tape looks similar (its really thin but sort of grippy). P'raps I could use that instead?
Wharf Rat
How about self anealing tape? Thin piece round each clamp? Nice and rubbery/grippy and stretches very thin. Tends to go a bit sticky like the real stuff too over time. Edited March 28, 2012 by Wharf Rat
mick miller
Possibly, easy to get hold of?
Wharf Rat
Car accessory or electrical shop, not too pricey either.
steve_b_wales
How about PTFE tape. Not sure if this would work though?
Rem223
I would go with Wharf Rat's suggestion self amalgamating tape. Pretty reasonable and if your satellite dish connections get a bit ropey you can fix those too!

Nice and sticky with the outside giving a nice surface to grip on. I remember a clear double sided tape we used in the car trade for sticking badges back on after repainting a panel. mick miller
I went with electrical tape for now, I'll see how I get on. I have found some S.A.T. locally so if the insulation tape proves to be a duff choice I'll switch to that. Thanks for the suggestions folks.
