cockercas
right bear with me on this one. ive decided seen as i carnt get a mortgage im going to get the other half a new car and keep the jimny purely for shooting. i have a soft top jimny and im toying with the idea of welding a bulk head behind the drivers/passenger seats and doing away with the rear seats and soft roof and having a mini pick up. so if i get a new car and weld and chop the jimny. how do i go on with insurance ect. JR1960
Just notify them, it shouldn't make the slightest difference to your premium, unless you're 17 with 6 points of course.
-Mongrel-
It probably will make a difference purely because you have altered the specfication of the vehicle from 4/5 seat passenger to two seat pick up. However, so long as you notify the insurance company and they acccept the mods then it shouldn't be a problem. There are specialised brokers who deal with modded cars if it proves a problem. JR1960
You haven't modified the performance or anything else that should change your premium, if it does they're just taking the **** and you need to find a different insurer. I've modified 20+ Suzukis to various standards of modification and quite often, even very heavily modified trucks, are cheaper to insure than the standard one. Just ask first, if they load your premium (which they shouldn't for the mods you're talking about) have a shop round. That'll be Darren at KAP Suzuki, he's not a bad lad, not cheap mind....... -Mongrel-
Thing is that in-sewer-ants companies love to wriggle out of a claim, as such they need lots of ways to decline your claim, one of these being 'undisclosed modifications'. I know of a fellow who had a claim turned down as he'd fitted aftermarket wheels but not declared them - insurance voided.

Luckyshot
It will change your insurance I have only taken the back seats out of my jimny and the insurance company stung me for more dosh You want to change your insurance company then as removing seats should decrease your premium as less passengers = less people to claim if involved in an accident. My Landy insurance went down £16 when I removed the middle seat and replaced it with a cubby box.
Dr_evil
Think you need to put it down on the V5 as a bodywork alteration then send that off…..just make sure they keep it as a PLG and don't change its class to commercial if it becomes a pickup, only saying that as most fender pickups are classed as commercials but that might be due to the load capacity
chrispti
It will change your insurance I have only taken the back seats out of my jimny and the insurance company stung me for more dosh When I asked my insurance company about removing the rear seats in my Jimny, they said it wont make any difference to the price as long as the seats can be put back in. What about the likes of 7 seater cars, ford galaxy for example, where the rear seats are easily removed and replaced, your insurance doesn't go up and down every time you take a seat out. Less passengers to claim in the event of an accident. Less weight, less fuel consumption, better vehicle handling, breaks more efficient, no passengers to distract you and they bump the price up  any excuse to pinch a bit more Edited April 6, 2012 by chrispti
