peek-at
Hi, I have a second hand air tank (7ltr 300bar) which is stamped with '2009' will this be the last test date (if so how long does it last) or will it be the expiry date? cheers
TwoJackRussells
It depends on what kind of test it had last, if it had the Full HYDRAULIC TEST IN 2009 it is in test for 4 years from that date , But if it was only visually inspected it is in test for 2 years. Any Dive shop will help You out, getting a new test done aint cheap £60-£80 for the full test!!!!!!
Luckyshot
£20 for test round here and it lasts for 5 years.
bazzab
Is it a dive cylinder or for air guns only? If dive then tests last 2.5yrs if its gun one only ie for surface use and can't have diving regulators fitted to it then 5yrs mate. Dive cylinders have full hydrostatic tests every 5yrs and visual test every 2.5 between. Is there no IDEST sticker anywhere on the neck? if not then 2009 is test date. Hope that helps mate. Bazza. No there is no test sticker on it so maybe it was manufactured in 2009.........it is for surface use only so im assuming it wont need a test until till 2014. duncan
not wanting to hijack your topic but could you tell me ,do you need to have a bottle tested even if its not used for diving (been shooting for years but new to air-rifles)
snipper
if the valve has a gauge on it then its a surface only bottle with a 5yr test on it .... if it has no gauge on the valve but one on a clamp then it a dive bottle with 2yr test if its tested before it runs out you will only need a visual test but a hydrastatic test will be needed if the test is lapsed

SakoQuad
not wanting to hijack your topic but could you tell me ,do you need to have a bottle tested even if its not used for diving (been shooting for years but new to air-rifles) yes you do as no filling station will fill it if is out of test. That apart you really don't want to be messing with cylinders pressurised to 300 bar (4,300psi+) anyway, the test goes some way to making sure things don't go very pear shaped one day! A test is legally required every 5 years for cylinders used only for filling airguns and not as under water air supply. I know folk who recoil from spending £35 every 5 years - they might not if they saw what a cylinder failure can do to its surroundings! The bottle referrred to at start of this thread will be due for retest in 2014 as long as it is used only to fill airguns and not used as as part of scuba gear.
