Just checked on the net Zapp,Coldstream Gds were the last resident Bn,and after our 2 year tour it closed 2003,seems like last week BB

 

The Coldm Gds were the last unit I went to visit at Ebrington some time in 2002, so that would make sense. I'd no idea they were the last though.

 

The Tidy Doffer was a couple of miles outside hillsborough but was burnt down years ago.

 

No way! We used to drink in there all the time. The Robin's Nest was OOB for much of my time I seem to remember. Having young kids though meant I wasnt out and about as much as I might have been.

 

Edit: My son was born in the Lagan Valley hospital, so I have fond memories of Lisburn - he's now 22 and because he had an itinerant childhood because of my Job, he too feels a connection with Lisburn as his birth place. On a later tour both my kids went to Pond Park school

 

Son number 2 was born at Lagan Valley. It was very quiet the night we went in, so the staff took pity on me and let me sleep in one of the spare beds (with the proviso they could kick me out if any more pregnant women came in)!

 

Pond Park, blimey, now we are talking. Most of my mates were on Harmony Hill though. There was a chippy up there we used to use who had clearly never heard of pukka pies. The first time I asked they looked at me like I was mental. It was either that place or the grotty Chinese down by Tesco.

 

We lived on Packard Road, number 98 right down the far end.

 

Well when I was in the term HAT was used for Paras as in c rap HATS because of the beret!

 

Times must have changed somewhat. The Royals I work with would rather die than use a Para phrase like Hat.

Any body do a guard at the silver city ? I was there for a year from August 1972 until August 1973 . We were sent there to back up the Ulster prison service at the time of operation motor man . When I arrived the paras had been kicked out for being to gobby with the residents and were replaced by the R.H.A. who were just as gobby to the re sidents . A riot every single day ,oh what joy and happiness . Proberbly before the time most ex squad dies on here .
