bedwards1966
Unless you want to shoot deer I don't think you'd gain much by going to a .243, they're quite similar. Is there anything you don't like about the current set-up, what would you like to be different that's making you think about changing? Gimlet
If its a fox only rifle I'd have the .22-250. There's very few cartridges that shoot sweeter. I love them. I wish they were legal for Roe in England. m595 is a damn good rifle too. Are you sure you haven't got shooter's itch?

bullet boy
If your happy with your .22-250 then don't change it unless you want to shoot Deer.I only shoot Foxes and I'm very happy with my .22-250 and won't change it for any other calibre. Alycidon
If you are planning to actually shoot deer on a regular basis and you are not planning to go to the open hill then buy the 243. You might then consider rebarrelling the 22.250 to 22BR or 20BR, much more accurate calibers and you get to see the impacts. If you are not going to shoot deer REGULARLY then stay with the 22.250. If its a question of 22.250 or 243 but not both then decide depending on your stalking plans. A
jamie g
If you want to shoot deer then 243. If its just foxes your shooting. stick to what you have and get it screwcut. And a mod put on it. You wouldn't gain anything going to a 22 or 20 br apart from spending money on rebarrel that isn't needed. How accurate do you need it to be its a foxing rifle not target rifle
remy 700
I nearly sold my 22 250 to go down this route , just keep it and get a 308 as well thats my opinion , cheers
pat g
Well if its foxing and only foxing then i would stick with your 22/250. The m595 is one fine rifle and it may be worth investing in having the barrel screw cut and fitting a mod. If you go down this route though, for heavens sake choose someone who is competent and up to the job otherwise that fine rifle you have could be ruined. If however you would like to do some stalking and foxing and intend having only one rifle then the 243 would be the way to go. It is a good all round calibre but i cant see it offering any advantage over the 22/250 other than perhaps being a little more forgiving in a strong wind. Remember though that if you are willing to travel over the border into Scotland and Stalk only Roe then your 22/250 is perfectly legal and will do the job no problem. Also you can stalk Muntjac in England as well with any 22C/F. I was in a similar position last year as i wanted a good foxing calibre but i intended doing some stalking as well and have Roe on one of my permissions so opted for the 243 as it ticked the boxes ATB, Pat

jason kaye
A .243 will do everything a .22-250 can do,a .22-250 can't do everything a .243 can do plus a .243 is deer legal too. Jase.
