WinchesterDave
Hi guys,I am curious as to what these spots inside my barrels might be, mainly the top one. I clean both after every outing but these spots never go. Are they just hard bits of carbon? Or rust? Any help would be appriciated as to what they are and how to get rid of them?... Thank you. fruity
Could be a build up of ****, you may need to use a dence/heavy duty type bronze brush rather than the normal ones and give it a really good clean to get it all off Edited May 6, 2012 by fruity

straightshooter1
try some 0000 steel wool with a bit of gun oil on it on a long piece of dowl with a slot cut into it attached to a electric drill do not over do it and make sure you go evenly up and down the barrel not just in one spot if this doesn't clear it up it's pitting this will also polish your bores up nicely give me a shout if you need some more info

If Ive had some stubborn residue in the barrels I have used the green Kitchen scourer (scotch brite) as a patch on a jag, plenty of youngs 303, a vigorous clean usually does the trick, if in any doubt a run down to your local gun smith will put your mind at rest and he will be able to advise you what the problem is. Rust leading to pitting may be a problem.

Vince Green
Rust spots don't turn black until they have been treated with one of the rust treatments. Even then don't worry, it will only be surface rust and won't affect safety. There is a lot of rubbish spouted about rust in shotgun barrels. Even if the barrel is red with rust its only a few thou deep and hasnn't eaten into the fabric of the barrel. Try this, get some Solvol Autosol from Halfords and give the barrel a good polish on a tight patch. It won't remove steel so its totally safe.
