Jmgrain
Hi, I am new to shooting live pigeons, so I would like some help please. I have permission to shoot land that has two large fields of Barley, at the moment the shoots are about 2.5 inches long with no birds to be seen. I am wondering what happens through the year as the crops grow, when do the pigeons and crows come back, do Pheasants and rabbits like these crops at any time, and how should I prepare for this. Is it possible to get organized day shooting, I live in Derbyshire DE55. A lot of questions. Thanks John
Actionpigeons
You are asking far to many questions in one post, You should do your home work, buy a book on pigeon shooting would be a start. Have a good read on shooting, then maybe ask question if you get stuck. Pigeon shooting by Archie coats is a good book. Cranfield
As the crop ripens and perhaps gets blown over in places, the pigeons may show an interest, although its my experience that pigeons prefer wheat to barley. After harvest you may get further action on the stubbles. The main way to know what is happening on your land is to watch it throughout the year. Are there any adjoining woodlands, sitty trees, hedges, where are the flightlines, etc ? It really is a case of look and learn.
Harnser
The next time that pigeons will be interested in cereals is when it gets to the milky stage about early June time and after that the stubbles after harvest . If you have very short cereals at the moment then they may be interested in any weed in the crop ,particularly "chick weed " . Harnser .
