JonathanL
Wording on fac says "for shooting deer and zeroing". Am i allowed to zero and then fire off a few practise rounds or just zero. The HO guidance at para 3.31 says 'Zeroing might.....include training and testing, whether on a rifle range or other suitable land.' Para 3.32 says that 'There should be no prescribed limits on the number of rounds of ammunition that can be expended during zeroing, although this will need to be compatible with these functions and consistent with the overall limits on possession and purchase.'. So, basically, the word 'zeroing' has qite a wide meaning and as long as what you are doing is genuinely in connection with the lawful shooting of deer you should be fine. Zeroing isn't defined in law anywhere (that I'm aware of) so I suppose there is the theoretical possibility that a court may decide that it means only actual zeroing and nothing more although I can't see that as being very likely. If that were to be the case then it would mean that no deer stalker would ever be allowed to practice with his rifle, the consequenses of which are potentially grossly inhumane not to mention dangerous. ST3V3
The HO guidance at para 3.31 says 'Zeroing might.....include training and testing, whether on a rifle range or other suitable land.' my fac has land deemed suitable blah blah blah (closed ticket) and zeroing on aproved ranges etc thing is I have joined a club and cant use my own rifles while still a probationary member

If they do then I would be compelled to ask why as it is a pointless rule given that, finances allowing, you could just build your own range and shoot your rifles there. J. CharlieT
clubs happy for me to use my own rifle but leicstershire constabulary say NO! Are you sure you have not got the wrong end of the stick because that is absolute nonsense. If your FAC has the usual generic wording of "......and for zeroing on ranges or land etc" then you most certainly can. You do not need a condition for "target shooting at a range" on your fac to zero your rifles at a club you are a member of. JonathanL
clubs happy for me to use my own rifle but leicstershire constabulary say NO! Have the police actually pu that condition on to your certificate? Actually, now I think about it I've seen something sikilar. Guy joined the club which normally means he would have to wait until completing his probationary period until he could get an FAC. However, he arranged some land to shoot on so got his FAC within a couple of months. The police put a condition on his cert saying that he could use it on the land but not at the club! Complete and utter madness in the extreme. J.
